Guam is an island in the Western Pacific Ocean, the largest of the Mariana Islands. It belongs to the USA. Guam Greyhound Racetrack closed abruptly in November, resulting in hundreds of greyhounds being handed out to anyone who asked. The world is watching and protesting, and greyound rescue associations in the USA are desperately trying to deal with the situation. Read the background to the story, third item on the page, and here.
Pat Getz of Greyhound Protection League reports that the first two greyhounds, Houdini and Jet Li, have just left Guam. They are being flown to California, and a CA greyhound group will care for them till they are adopted out!
Thank you Susan Netboy, Shirley Miller, GAIN, Noni Davis and all the many, many saviors of the first of many greyhounds to escape a very sorry situation.
The two boys were welcomed by Homestretch and GreySave volunteers at LAX – 5:00 a.m. Monday morning. More greyhounds will arrive every few days – same time (unfortunately) . . . same place.
Some of the greyhounds that were found abandoned in the Guam villages and jungle. And photos of Jet Li and Houdini leaving Guam and arriving in Los Angeles.
