It never ceases to amaze me how sadistic some people are. A tale from Ireland came in this week of a greyhound, ears cut off to get rid of the tattoo, tied up in a potatoe sack and thrown in a river.
It struggled so much it got its hind legs out, but couldn’t save itself and its body was washed up on the shore.
And who could harm this beautiful podenca, dumped outside a pet shop with both front legs broken. Valerie Wood of Ibizan Hound Rescue explains.
Kaya is a beautiful Galgo/Podenco cross who was dumped outside a local petshop.
Both her front legs were broken – we will never know if accidentally or deliberately but as she was found at the end of the hunting season one has to wonder just what did happen to this poor girl.
One leg had a very nasty open wound which was infected and she was severely undernourished.
Despite the pain this lovely young dog was in she was friendly and affectionate when handled by both myself and the vet.
She has been with us almost a month now and has done so well. She has gained weight and her coat is looking good. She is very, very friendly and very playful.
It is impossible to keep her quiet and she leaps around and runs about like a looney if permitted!!
Unfortunately Kaya’s story is an all too familiar one for us here in rural, southern Spain.
We receive some hounds in dreadful condition. Happily the vast majority of them are rehabilitated and rehomed. Unfortunately it is very difficult to find homes for hounds within Spain so we rely on homes overseas for these lovely dogs.
It is so humbling how these wonderful dogs have the ability to overcome these dreadful injuries and to continue to place their trust in mankind.
I am sure you will agree that Kaya is a beautiful girl.
If you can offer a forever home to Kaya or any of the other wonderful podencos in the care of the association, Valerie will be delighted to hear from you.
