Estrella – recovering from the killing station – looking for her forever family

Estrella 1 300 Estrella is looking for a forever home. She was diagnosed with Ehrlichia at the beginning of January, a very low reading, but, for whatever reason, treatment was never commenced, even when she went to her foster home. The only ‘symptom’ she shows, if one can call it a symptom, is weight loss, but that could also be due to the fact that they don’t bother to feed the dogs in the killing station. The only reason she was not killed is because someone had shown an interest in her.

Estrella 230 She is now on 28 days’ treatment of antiobiotics and a vitamin supplement, plus special canine diet from the vet. She is a delightful happy medium sized rough haired podenca, used as a breeding bitch but, in comparison to most of the galgos we bring out, she has not been badly treated, as she is not afraid of men, her tail permanently wags when she is out for a walk, and she loves walking the meadow with our big levrier. She will make someone a lovely companion.

Podencos are very loyal loving companions. Estrella is 9 years old, microchipped, vaccinated and spayed. She is available to adopt through L’Europe des Levriers.

Hmm… She is too old to take care… I mean, there are chance that in just a few more years, she might die.

Well, yes, in a few years she will die, no might
about it! Well all die, all of us!

That is exactly why it is very giving to offer to be able to give love and friendship to this beautiful dog in her late years.

Thank you Tine. Estrella is only 8 years old,
9 in August, so she has probably another 6 years of life in her, and I dont
think ehrlichia is quite so much the killer which leishmania and filaria seem to
be – she is a very happy little dog in my home, taking her medication without
problem, and enjoying having regular small meals. She would win a
competition for the Dog With The Waggiest Tail! A happy little
    podenca.
Thanks for commenting and for caring.

I think if I was old I’d still want someone to care about me as I grew even older, I’ll happily give her love as she grows old! I’ve emailed you all the info Beryl and look forward to hearing from you – and to meeting this lovely little girl in the future!
    Talk to you soon,
    Frances

    Bonjour
Thank you for caring about her. She is on her
antibiotic treatment for the ehrlichia, and a vitamin supplement, and 4 small
meals a day, which she eats heartily. She is not a pig at eating, she likes to
be quiet with no one around, so I suspect she is not used to regular meals,
until she went into her foster home, before coming out of Spain last
weekend. She is still thin, but enjoys skipping around the courtyard with
the other dogs; even walks in the meadows. Apart from her loss of weight,
she does not show any other symptoms of the ehrlichia, so I am hopeful that in
another week, she will look a different dog!
Will keep everyone posted about her
    progress.

    Hi June
Thanks for commenting – he will for sure die at
some point too! Meanwhile, Estrella is starting to recover, she put on 1.3
kilos last week. She is a very happy podenca, house-trained – would ou
believe – and very affectionate and, unusually for dogs from Spain, not afraid
of men. And she has someone wanting to give her a forever home. Just
have to wait till she puts on some more weight and we feel the ehrlichia is
losing the battle and we are winning.
Thanks for reading Galgo News, and for
    posting.
