SARA Lanzarote has some good news about 3 podencos finding homes, but there are dozens more. Please support them.
‘In November 2009, Sara Animal Shelter, Lanzarote prepared and sent to the UK four Podencos for adoption. This was the first time they have attempted this due to the quarantine laws in the UK. Rick and Lesley Beauchamp, of Express Recruitment in Nottingham, who made Sara their chosen charity, collected the dogs off the plane in Germany and have been fostering them whilst homes were found.
We are delighted to report that three of the four have now found forever homes.
A lady who read the report on Galgo News decided to adopt Orlando as she needed an older dog as a companion for her Galgo and Whippet and she liked the sound of a Podenco.
Reggie was adopted by a family who need a friend for their rescued Lurcher who is too lively for their two older rescued Greyhounds. He will be going in two weeks time when his new owners return from holiday.
Cristina was adopted by a family who used to live in Lanzarote!! Before leaving the island three years ago, this family sadly lost their beloved Podenco. They have searched the UK for another one but all enquiries led to blank faces as people had not even heard of the breed. They were delighted to learn of SARA’s new scheme to rehome Canarian Podencos in the UK as they now have their longed for Podenco and a little bit of Lanzarote to remind them of their time living on this wonderful island.
There is just Reggie’s brother, Ronnie, (18 months old) left now looking for a new home.
There are four females being prepared for the UK and these will travel over in April.

Pintada – 5 years old
