  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – another victim of a Spanish road traffic accident

The Cruelty of Abandonment of a Hunting Dog: The Pain of a Shattered Galga. She’s been run over. Came to Fundación Benjamín Mehnert in the state you see in the video below.

This galga is a direct victim of irresponsible abandonment, a cruel practice that condemns thousands of animals, especially greyhounds and hunting dogs, to unimaginable suffering. Having served for the hunt, many are discarded mercilessly, left to their luck on roads and paths, where they face constant dangers and certain death or lives filled with pain.

We demand laws that actually protect these defenseless beings.

  • EU votes for animals (some animals) – report from Eurogroup for Animals

On 19th June at 12:30, the European Parliament adopted its position on the proposal on cats and dogs with 457 votes in favor, 17 against and 86 abstentions.

    Hounds aren’t excluded.

The outcome is generally excellent for our pets.

Despite months of ups and downs and an endless list of exemptions, a sufficient majority of European Parliament MPs fulfilled their promises and ambitions, and continues the fight against the illegal trade of animals for their protection.

    Key results include:

  • Heatstroke in Dogs

HEATSTROKE is a MEDICAL EMERGENCY! Fortunately, now more and more professionals are communicating the same message!

Whilst the need for rapid cooling with COLD water (1-15°C) has been recognised for decades in equestrian and human medicine, the dog world has lagged behind, and very poor information still circulates. e.g. “cool the paws”, “cover with wet towels”, “avoid cold water as it will cause shock”

  • Galgos del Sol fight for justice for Derek – victim of horrendous maltreatment and abuse

From Galgos del Sol who bravely brought a court case in Spain against the previous owner of this poor Mastin.

Monday 16th June 2025 we went to court with the previous owner of Derek. He was rescued in June 2022 with his ears and the end of his tongue cut off, he was left neglected & suffering terribly. The owner needs to pay for what he did. Sheepdogs have a terrible time in Spain, worse than galgos in my opinion. Wish us luck!

Update after 3 years of fighting.

  • Plataforma NAC – still fighting for Spain’s hunting dogs

    PNAC 19 June 350
The European Commission forgets about hunting dogs. Key Vote in the European Parliament and Next Steps.

On June 19, the European Parliament will vote in plenary session an important proposal. Following this vote, negotiations will begin with the European Commission and the Council of the European Union, the latter composed by the ministers of the Member States.

This day is crucial as Parliament still has the opportunity to rectify any shortcomings of the Agriculture Commission and ensure that both dogs and cats receive the adequate protection they deserve.

  • The Hidden Face of Hunting in Spain

    Plataforma NAC June 2025 350
The Hidden Face of Hunting: The Chronic Disprotection of Galgos and Podencos.

In Spain, the idyllic image of the galgo running through the countryside often hides a dark and heartbreaking reality. These animals, endowed with unmatched elegance and speed, are largely victims of systemic lack of protection that condemns them to abandonment, mistreatment and, in many cases, to premature and cruel death.

  • Galgos De Leon – Galga Mina with a head trauma

    Leon Mina 2 350
    With Galgos de Leon

MINA Galgos De León received a notice yesterday of an abandoned galga with a severe head trauma, so they immediately arranged everything to go get it. They took her directly to the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Leon where she has been admitted and they are already testing her, and the ophthalmologist of the hospital will evaluate, hopefully she doesn’t lose her eye.
And depending on the results of the Rx you still have to do a CT scan. She’s stable, but not out of danger.

Let’s hope that there are no complications and that everything goes well, now there is no forecast of anything, but to continue organizing, they are looking for a #fosterhouse in #León for when they leave. If you can host her write a WhatsApp to 686369225.
