  • Galgo Batur – bad leg fracture and starved – now safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    Batur 2 400
Galgos Rescue Almeria received a call to collect this injured galgo.

Our new boy was given a name “Batur”.

Batur is doing well, he’s now mainly enjoying the peace and gets power food twice a day to strengthen his resistance. He’s still quite underweight so that he will have gained some weight by Monday. Monday an appointment is scheduled with the traumatologist and he will most likely be operated immediately.

The medication he’s taking now relieves the pain so that he can relax sufficiently.

  • 6 galgo puppies abandoned – now safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria

    From Sandy Galgoslover

Last week we collected another 6 abandoned puppies from our vet. Unfortunately, there is no trace of the mother. All 6 (5 girls and 1 boy ) got a full check-up, their temperature was taken, they got their first treatment against worms and they were weighed. The weights are hovering around 1.700kg for all of them, while the boy weighs just over 2kg. All are doing fine at the moment, estimated age is 6 weeks.

    Help/support is very welcome.

  • Terra – Galga left injured at the roadside in Cordoba – update

    Terra after op 400
Here’s a positive progress report on the beautiful galga Terra left injured unable to walk. The vet fees are nearly 2,000 euros, please donate and help this small Protectora.

WE HAVE GOOD NEWS! Terra is already peeing by herself. They put her up but she barely supports and since they see her more stable, possibly tomorrow she will go into surgery to fix her hip.

Terra’s veterinary bill now rises to €1,876. Please, any contribution, no matter how small, will be a huge help to us and will allow us to continue saving lives like yours.

We want to sincerely thank all of you who are contributing their grain of sand so Terra can move forward.

She’s a great fighter and, once operated, will need a foster home or, better yet, a family to adopt her. Fresh out of the clinic, she needs to be calm and special care for her recovery.

  • Left at the roadside unable to walk – please donate to expensive vet bills

    Terra 11 2024 400
This galga was left at the roadside after being hit by a vehicle, totally unable to walk. Luckily she has been rescued, and is with Asociacion Protectora de Animales Segunda Oportunidad Santaella in Cordoba. She has been called Terra (Earth) and this is her story so far. The vet bill is already over 2,000 euros and this small Protectora desperately needs the funds for vet fees for putting Terra back together again.

    TERRA EN ADOPCIÓN

Last week we received notice of this galga that was found after being hit and run. We immediately rushed her to the E.R. An analysis and several X-rays were performed. The diagnosis is heartbreaking. She has four fractured ribs, a sprain and three fractured hips. Her condition is critical, she is in a lot of pain but we will do everything we can to help her, but to achieve it we need your help. We have named her Terra.

  • The Fate awaiting British greyhounds sent to China

My passion for greyhounds started back in 1994 when a stray greyhound in poor condition turned up at our Suffolk farmhouse. In those days no one adopted greyhounds. Moving to France I discovered the situation for the Spanish Greyhound (galgos) and started my long fight to publicise their plight and help the rescue associations. So it’s easy to forget that the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (nothing Great about Britain now!) ignores the plight of unwanted greyhounds transported to a life of hell in China! Would you believe they eat greyhounds in China>!

So for a change from galgos, I’m publishing this latest report from Kerry Elliman who originally founded Greyhound Protection UK which developed into Candi Hound Rescue International. She has been rescuing British greyhounds in China for several years and this is her latest report, from 25/11/2024.

  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – helping a pregnant galga

The sad lot for many galgas. Milanuncios is full of adverts for galgos and podencos which the hunters don’t want. In years gone by it was possible to read them all but now there is a security page!

    FBM tell this story.

    ‘Cuore does not arrive alone.

An ad on social networks asked for desperate help for her: “Older and pregnant galga. Her owner doesn’t want her anymore…”. And that’s how we arranged for Cuore, as we called her, to come to our centre.

On her arrival, our vets checked that she is indeed quite old and the x-rays showed us that she has a good litter still in her belly, and that she is about to give birth. We have already settled her in a quiet place so that she can give birth safely and relaxed. The whole team is already waiting for the arrival of the new members of the family.’

  • Galga Millie with 3 broken legs! Saved by Galgos del Sol

Millie was the victim of a hit and run accident on a Spanish road. Left unable to move, she was chucked over the armco at the side of the road and left to an unthinkable death.

Luckily she was spotted and taken to the Galgos del Sol where they have put her back together again and, amazingly, she is already walking.

I hope you can see these videos of her, on facebook and Instagram.
