  • France 24 – Mo Swatek talks about the plight of the galgo – add a comment

Valarie Wolf has just sent me this link to an interview with Mo Swatek, President of Pro-Galgo. Please add your comments to it.

  • Podenco Shadow in his forever home – escaped from life on the streets in SpainSha

Some of you may remember Shadow, a little podenco with Sofia El Refugio Escuela in Seville, looking for a forever home. He looked so much like a male version of my little Podenca Andaluz Bebe, who was rescued injured on a Seville motorway. Have a look at the pictures on this link of Shadow in his forever home, plus Leela and Esther, a couple more galgos who have also found paradise in homes outside Spain.

  • ‘From Heaven to Hell – The Story of the Galgo Espanol’ – bibliography

I’m hearing that copies of my book sent on 21st June are now arriving in post boxes in the US. If you would like to email me your comments, I am collecting a list to publish – all favourable so far! If you do not have a full bibliography of website addresses, please also let me know and I will send you a copy to print off and keep with your book.

And tell your friends to order a copy, all proceeds go to help the galgos.

  • Galgas Angie & Sofie – getting ready to fly to new homes in the US

Remember Angie, the last of the Jaen Four, and Sophie, bottom jaw smashed by some sick bastard! They are now being prepared for their new lives in the US and will be travelling with Telma Shaw and Wally Lacey of GRIN. Read the latest here.

  • Have you rehomed a galgo or podenco you saw on Galgo News?

If so, I’m collecting stories of galgos and podencos which Galgo News readers have adopted through seeing appeals on the website, or via associations which they read about on Galgo News.

It would be marvellous if you could write between 750-1,000 words about what you know of the dog’s background, how you found out about the dog, how the dog made the journey to you, and their character now they are with you.

Don’t worry if it goes more than that, I can always precis. And thank you a million times for those of you who have taken into your home one of the innocents of the Spanish hunters. Email me on band@bbrennan.eu before the end of September 2010

  • Camy, young injured galga – Pro-Galgo appeal for donations for vet fees

Camy Pro Galgo 07 2010 210 This is CAMY, a young, injured and very shy galga found near Seville. Thanks to Susi from Jerez and her friends who rescued her, the dog was operated on but unfortunatly the long fine screw which held together the hind leg moved inside the joint and caused the dog severe pain. The pain caused CAMY not to use her leg so the muscles atrophiated completely. So Camy had to go back into the vet clinic in Barcelona for further surgery.

Pro-Galgo desperatly need help with the payment of CAMY’s surgery as well as the financing of the Jerez galgos blood tests.

You can read more on this link plus details of how to donate to the vet fees.

  • Galgo News Stands Neutral as far as the World Cup goes!

Beryl & Galgas 3 250 Personally, as a Brit, the English football team were a joke. That’s nothing new. We introduced football, cricket, tennis, golf to the world. Whatever we introduce, we then are the losers. Andy Murray put up a good show in tennis, but the footballers – and when you consider what these males are paid????!!! – were pathetic. And why? Because there are so many foreign footballers in the UK football teams that the English team manager can’t find enough decent English players. I could go on further, but I won’t.

Just to say that I support neither Holland nor Spain in the World Cup final. Why? Well, Holland has taken so many rescued galgos to its hearts and homes, but Spain is the home of the galgo, and I could never abandon support – even in the World Cup – for the amazing volunteers who work to rescue, and give shelter to, and rehome abroad, these beautiful innocents who suffer so at the hands of the bastard galgueros.

So, Galgo News stands neutral. But hope you enjoyed the photos and comments from galgos in Holland and Spain!

  • Galgos in Holland say ‘Spain, we are ready for you!’ We will win!

Joke Brussen galga gang 1 world cup 400
Joke Brussen from Holland decked his galgos out to show who they are supporting in the World Cup Final. He says the pic was taken by the police, who thought he was abandoning them! What a wonderful photo!

  • Jerez galgos neutered, thanks to a team of German & Bulgarian vets

Mo Swatek of Pro-Galgo is really pleased that the Jerez galgos the association saved have now been spayed/castrated, apart from one old girl. A team of German & Bulgarian vets visited the area and perform neutering operations on over 500 local animals – think how many unwanted litters of dogs and cats that will have saved. You can read about it here.
