Recent celebrations organised for Scooby Medina’s 20th anniversary saw the music of Maria Daines and Paul Killington performed for the world. Edwin of Scooby tells the story of a weekend for galgos:
“The weekend of August 31, 2008, a date that won’t be easily forgotten in the history of Scooby. Our first international event, held in Vlamertinge, Belgium, was a central meeting point for the members of Scooby, our partner organizations and our supporters.
It is 3 weeks since Karmel last visited the vet. Since then she has been on 1 megasolene tablet per day for 10 days, then half a megasolene tablet for 10 days. Karmel has continued in general good health – bright eyes, no skin problems, just 1 wart appearing on 1 foot, eager to walk the meadows with our other dogs.
We went back to the vet yesterday. There is still a slight problem with her feet (I can’t see it!) and her skin is not as good as it can be (I think it’s ok). I bow down to the far superior knowledge of my wonderful vet.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me, I am now strong enough to search for a family. I want to thank everyone who has helped me get better. I now have the will to live again. Matilda.
Good News. Matilda is now up for adoption. Contact Greyhoundsrescue Holland.
This is the tale of an incredible operation between Greyhoundsrescue Holland, Mieke, a volunteer, a unit of Spanish police, and an injured galgo. It’s also a tale of the search for a stolen galgo, entering the bleak, vicious world of the gypsies.
It’s a tale of bravery, compassion, co-operation, understanding across borders, and an example of what can be achieved when the Spanish police actually work with the volunteers rather than ignoring them.
Passion Levriers are appealing urgently for new homes for two galgos. They have been returned by their adoptant, who had decided that life in an apartment is not good for them.
They are affectionate and very sociable with other dogs and cats.
Viernes, is a black galgo, 7 years old. Esma is 2 and a half years old.
They need a new home quickly as they are showing signs of becoming stressed by their current unsettled situation.

Our Spanish friends are angry! They have organised a huge protest in Madrid on 21st September. They want a national law to protect animals in Spain.
They want severe penalties for people found guilty of maltreating animals. They want a ban on financial aid from the State for spectacles and events involving the maltreatment of animals, such as bull fights and greyhound racing.

Galgos are being stolen. Three in the Cadiz area, one in Cordoba. And this is just the beginning.
This is a report from Saskia Rinia van Nauta of the San Anton Refuge.
The first burglary has materialised: the galgos Chupeta, Fantastica and Fence have been stolen in the heat of the night. With enormous violence doors have been broken, and thieves have entered into the shelter. The hunters themselves also suffer under the theft of their dogs.
Prevention of theft seems to be impossible. The totally ruthless perpetrators act by incredible force, this is a most dangerous situation.
Help, please, with this case. Another galga on the streets of Toledo, abandoned, difficult to rescue, but they are not giving up.
She is only about 8 months, with a male hanging around…. more babies if she comes into season.
Please, any offers of help in the area to rescue or foster/adoption.
