  • ‘The Journey’ – when you bring a pet into your life

Always be your baby Oh Happy Grey 400
“The Journey” by Crystal Ward Kent

When you bring a pet into your life, you begin a journey – a journey that will bring you more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet also test your strength and courage.

If you allow, the journey will teach you many things, about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving its mark.

    Along the way, you will learn much about savoring life’s simple pleasures;
jumping in leaves, snoozing in the sun, the joys of puddles, and even the satisfaction of a good scratch behind the ears.

Either you take them or I loose them!!!

Four souls in grief who just landed, four wingless angels,

Four famished, hungry, thirsty, full of ticks, chinchorros and fleas.. looking at us with eyes of uncertainty and resignation.

  • Galgo’s Rescue Almeria – and the dogs keep coming!

    GRA 3 20 09 400
From Sandy at Galgo’s Rescue Almeria

‘Rescuing dogs, it’s a never ending story.

Dogs are dumped en masse all year round and left to their own devices.

Not only at the end of the hunting season, but even now at the beginning, the underperforming dogs are discarded.
Already more than 10 adult galgos are waiting to come to GRA.

Because at this moment we are completely full 3 podencos are staying temporarily in another shelter, luckily 8 puppies and 1 oldie are in a foster family.

All help and support will be needed to cover all costs.

  • Rehoming a galgo – what they need to learn

Galgos 112 explains what a galgo needs to learn when going into foster or adoption.

‘Galga Leía just arrived at her foster home. The most trivial things are a challenge for her. From going up and down stairs, an elevator, TV or a vacuum cleaner. At first it’s not easy for them and it’s the work of the family that welcomes them to help them get through this stage patiently, without trauma. It’s an exciting and very rewarding task.

Being foster family is not only opening your home to a dog who needs to physically recover. It’s so much more. To foster also means meeting each dog, understanding and introducing him into a different world by taking the first steps in his education. It’s accompanying him and giving him the help he needs to recover that worthy life he should always have.
If you haven’t had this experience yet we encourage you to host at least once, better if more. Without foster homes we can’t help them anymore.

  • Spain – hunting with hounds has started again – whilst dogs are still being dumped!

    Galgo hare poster 400
    From Sandy Galgoslover

Rescuing abandoned animals is a never-ending story.

More and more we get appeals for help from private people who find or see dogs wandering in the streets, in the fields, etc.
Also from other shelters that can’t handle the massive influx of dogs.

We are a small shelter with limited places and with a lot of pain in the heart we sometimes have to say no.

While all shelters are still busy helping and saving dumped dogs from last hunting season, last Sunday the bang of the guns could be heard again, the new hunting season has already started again.

All support / help stays welcome.

  • Why greyhounds & galgos make great pets

We have recently returned to live in the UK, after living in france for 20 years and being involved in trips to Spain to bring rescued galgos and podencos back to France for foster and adoption. We live in a area where there is still a greyhound racing track so there are a few greyhound rescue/rehoming associations for those retiring from the track (I hate the racing, so many dogs get injured) Whilst visiting a National Trust Manor House last weekend, we were delighted to meet 6 greyhounds, all now happily rehomed for their forever lives. There are several galgos rehomed in the area just south of where we live, which I met recently at a Fun Dog Show. We all know they make great pets, so enjoy the video.
