Baas Galgo to the rescue of 5 maltreated galgos
This week we received a call that broke our hearts. They are 5 innocent creatures who have lived, or rather, barely survived their entire lives… It’s not right, and there will surely be no justice, because they belong to no one. Thanks to Ruth and Toño, we were able to rescue the little greyhound in the first photo; she was the most urgent case since she’s in the worst condition. Now we need a miracle and to find 4 more families willing to help us. Their lives depend on it. Can you lend us a paw?Paypal adopciones@baasgalgo.org -
Galgos Rescue Almeria – please donate to vet fees and food for new galgo arrivals

From Jules McMahon
Whilst driving in my home town Antas, Almería I found a Galgo girl so thin I could see her bones. With a badly injured leg she had nowhere to turn. Frightened, exhausted and clearly abandoned. I contacted Galgo Rescue Almería and without hesitation they took her. She had urgent medical care and was nursed back to health. Her rehabilitation led to her being homed in Lithuania and she is named Jules after me! Today Jules is thriving – playful, trusting and full of life. (more…)

The magic of a Spanish Galgo

This is taken from a page about the greyhound but it also applies to the Spanish greyhound.
They might be tall, lean, and built for the speed of the wind, but their spirits are as gentle as a summer breeze. Greyhounds prove that angels come in elegant, leggy packages, often found curled up on a soft sofa instead of racing across the sky.
Their long, stilt-like legs carry a heart of immense kindness, and those deep, soulful eyes can heal the roughest days in an instant. We are incredibly lucky to be chosen by these graceful, affectionate companions who demand nothing but a warm spot to nap and a gentle hand. (more…)

Galgos Rescue Almeria – a busy year of ups and downs
2025 news from Galgos Rescue Almeria
The past year was one of ups and downs. We faced unexpected setbacks and intense emotions, but also countless beautiful moments, shared with the special dogs who crossed our path. It was a hectic year that flew by, yet one we look back on with warm and grateful hearts.
We think back to all the D-days: those unforgettable moments when our beloved dogs packed their bags to meet their new families. No fewer than 177 dogs found their happiness this year. A result we could only dream of, and one that was made possible thanks to our amazing partners: Associazione ZAC Odv , Un Levriero per la Vita, Project Galgo, Vegrennen EV, Simona Norkute (Lithuania), Helping Animals Almanzora, Friends of Mazarrón Animals, Stichting Wereldhonden, and of course you—our loyal supporters. By sharing their stories so widely, you helped give each of them a new future. (more…)

Galgo puppy rescued and safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria
Frm Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria
This little guy recently arrived at the Rescue center. A tiny baby… trembling, scared, completely lost in a world that had been far too harsh on him. His eyes wide with fear, his little body so fragile you were almost afraid to touch him. Because evening was already falling and the darkness was creeping in, we first settled him in very gently. No more stimuli, no new voices… Just peace, warmth, and soft words. You could feel in everything that he needed this after such a nasty, cold and heartless ordeal. As if he was finally allowed, after a long time, to breathe again. Only this morning, with the first light, could we take a proper look at him… (more…)

To The Moon and Back – for galgo and podenco lovers

From Bev Farmer – For all you Podenco and Galgo Lovers..
I was so honoured to have been asked to contribute for a book created by Marga Hendrix of Viva la Vida Foundation that shines a light on the Podencos and Galgos of Spain. I wrote two pieces: one about Tilly, my first Podenco who began my journey with these remarkable dogs, and another about how we began rescuing Podencos and the desperate situation they face in Spain.
But this book is so much more than my words. (more…)

Galga and 4 month old puppy – now safe with Galgos Rescue Almeria
Last week from Galgo Rescue Almeria video
Every time again, it’s that same fearful waiting… that moment when a request for help comes in and your heart tightens, because you never know what kind of suffering you’re about to face. We were asked if we could help take in a galgo girl and a puppy. And as much as we wanted to rush into action immediately… the Rescue center is currently running with only one person. It was simply impossible to pick them up yesterday.
The following day thankfully, it was possible. With heavy hearts, we drove to the meeting point. What we found: an adult galgo girl… and a puppy barely four months old. The way that tiny pup was handed over — so lost, so fragile — is something we will never forget. (more…)
