  • Please sign and share – Ban Greyhound & Galgo Racing in Portugal

Portugal has a bad record for animal welfare with dogs abandoned every day – and regular readers may remember years ago we helped with the rescue and rehoming of an abused and maltreated galgo family.

  • Protectora Scooby – saving the needy hounds

    Scooby galgo 1 400 10 2019
‘Elderly dogs, with tumors, with Leishmania or extremely thin… When we rescue animals we do it because they need help and because we’re worried about the fate that might await them without it.

We don’t choose them for their color, size or age, nor do we care if they’re healthy or sick … We don’t select which dogs to help, we don’t think about whether they’re more or less beautiful or sociable, we don’t even consider if they will be easily adopted or if no one will want to give them a home and they’ll have to spend the rest of their lives with us in the shelter. None of that matters …

In Scooby we are animal lovers and our main goal is to help the ones most in need as they also deserve the best life possible.

  • Galgo Dante hoping for a forever home

    Google translation from Spanish.

‘We tell you his sad story, Dante was rescued by a wonderful person with his sister Ágata, they were probably hunter waste, they were welcomed into a house but he asked us for desperate help because he had cats and Dante is not fit with them, so he we made room in our shelter.

His sister Ágata was soon adopted instead for him nothing came out, Dante was very sad after the departure of his sister and to top it off other dogs did not accept him and beat him, he was welcomed and his welcome can not have him anymore, if nothing comes he will have to return to the shelter to a cold canine … Please help him, to go back to the shelter will take a toll,

ANTE ️DANTE is a Barcino galgo of impressive beauty, he is only 2 years old, he is the embodiment of sweetness, a velvety rose with petals, he is a galgo for which there are no adjectives to describe him, his serene sweetness and his Immediate dedication to those who wish to share their lives with him . He is a calm calm, excellent companion for those who do not have a life too dynamic and love to walk. Sociable with other dogs. A home for Dante would be ideal where you can live with other dogs. He is not fit with cats. Walk great on a leash.

He follows you without delay and wishes to see the moment of having a family with whom to share a true respectful and happy life.’

  • Galgos France – more happy hounds to new lives in France

    Galgos France logo 300
News from Galgos France of the 23 rescued hounds brought from Spain back to France in September for homing.

‘Friday morning, Anny, Guy and Joseph left with our truck taking donations to Hogar de Paz and Cuencanimal shelters.

Discover our 23 adoptees . Among them, Tyrion who tried, every trip, to get into the truck without success, difficult as he does not settle in a cage like his lucky friends. We must always keep hope that our Tyrion finally has an adoption ticket. Bolero will come to a foster family. We are looking for, of course, adopters for this beautiful galgo, positive leishmaniasis and abandoned by his galguero in a pitiful state. Alba, found with three broken legs, rescued, repaired.

Nice life to all these dogs with a difficult past and a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our supporters, fosterers and adopters, without whom, nothing would be possible!

  • Galga Solé – from Spanish hell with a hunter to a new life in Germany

Ann Marie Payne galga Solé 400 10 2019
From Ann Marie Payne of Ann’s Canine Care in Malaga.

‘Today marks the end of a chapter, and a new life for Solé. The last of the 4 galgos that arrived on the same day, unwanted by their hunter/breeder. I don’t want to think of their life with him because Solé came to me so broken. Sometimes they are so traumatised leaving the only place they’ve ever known, even if these places are just awful in our eyes, other times it could be something that’s happened in their past, or not happened as in the case of not being socialised with other people.

But whatever the case Solé is a survivor, and has overcome many things to be where she is today. Over the last few weeks I’ve pondered whether to keep her with me and bring her on more, or put her up for adoption with somebody experienced with traumatised dogs. Well fate stepped in and she has been offered a wonderful foster placement with a lady in Germany who has rescued galgos of her own, and is also so experienced dealing with dogs that have issues. I cannot let this opportunity pass her by, and have to let her go no matter how much it hurts.
