  • Protectora de Scooby to the rescue yet again.

    Scooby Murcia rescue 2 dogs 400
    News from the Scooby team.

    Last weekend we have traveled to Murcia to collect more animals whose lives were in serious danger.
    The people who rescue them, in the end, always end up getting in touch with us, because despite their multiple appeals, can no other association help them save the lives of these innocent beings?. Total has been 24 dogs, between galgos and podencos. And other animals…….

    The black galgo is one of the picked up dogs this weekend in Murcia, he has a broken leg and a vet gave the owner the advice to kill him ?? because the operation would cost a lot of money and he would probably never be able anymore to run enough fast for hunting…

    Although we have rescued this year various animals with fractures and almost drown in the costs, we can not look the other way and leave this galgo being killed one way or the other?.

    Below are photos of some of the dogs, all ex hunters as you can see.

  • A Trip to the Dog Park

    Besides the obvious, Humans often ask; What is the difference between a Galgo and a Podenco? I want to explain it by an example:

    A Trip to the Dog Park

    We Arrive;
    The Galgos are running like crazy.
    The Pods welcome every dog, man, tree, blade of grass with endless, constantly changing, body language and facial expressions.

    The First Five Minutes after Arrival;
    The galgos are running like crazy.
    The Pods dig up seventy small animals, they create mounds of undefinable mud, which sticks to everything it touches.

  • Changes at the Greyhound Health Initiative

    Greyhound Health Initiative logo 400
    We’ve made some changes! In April we finalized a couple of important staffing changes and we want you, our dedicated supporters, to hear about them before we announce them in our upcoming Newsletter in June.

    Our Founder, Dr. Guillermo Couto, has decided to step down as President of The Greyhound Health Initiative. After serving four consecutive years of his 2-year term we have agreed that his time would be better spent doing what he does best: seeing patients, researching and teaching. This does not mean he is leaving GHI. He will continue to advise our new President, Tina Kelly, and will remain involved in all other GHI activities, though he will primarily focus on education, consultations, and the blood bank. We are excited to give him the opportunity to focus on what he is most passionate about.

  • Campaign to protect hunting dogs – Hell in Castilla La Mancha

    The New Animal Protection Act of #clm excludes from its application to #hunting #dogs. This involves distress, abandonment, ill-Treatment, motor training, supply of substances and cruelty by some hunters and the worst, absolute impunity.

  • Scooby to the rescue again – the horror for galgos never ends

    Scooby galgo shattered leg 400  5 2018
    What this galgo has had to suffer until being rescued!! We don’t even want to think about it… He has a completely shattered front leg, with the broken bones splintered and a severe infection. The pain that this poor animal has had to endure must have been terrible.

    We will inform you about how he evolves, since we have to do him more tests to rule out other type of injuries and check his general health, since he is also extremely thin.

    Please, we need your help, we have had several cases of animals with fractures and sick and we can’t assume so many expenses.
