Vera Thorenaar Redering has been saving galgos in the Malaga province since 2008. She’s one of the first volunteers I was in contact with when starting Galgo News. In November the Association created a fundraiser to try and raise the money to buy their own shelter. Here’s a link to see what happened in the current shelter a few years ago and the risk again with the torrential storms Spain experiences now in the winter.

Protectora Scooby – overflowing with galgos!
And this is how we ended the 2020 year at Scooby, rescuing 25 galgos from the municipal perrera, and of which 19 are puppies from two different litters. See them all on this link.
Two of the little ones have deformed front legs, possibly due to poor diet and another of the little ones, Cierzo, has neurological problems.
The puppies, their mums and the rest of the newcomers are adorable and need to find families as soon as possible.

Black Galgo puppies need your help
These beautiful little galgo pups have had to overcome many difficulties despite their short age including the terrible parvo they managed to survive. It’s a lot of expenses that involve getting ahead of a litter and that’s why we need URGENT HELP in the form of a Royal Canin Puppy Medium, now on offer on platforms like ANIMAL STORE as well as 50 x 60 cm drenches, or financial help if you can send us to buy all this, either by PayPal (giving gift or donation to family or friends to avoid commission) to:
Paypal : blackgalgo.paypal@gmail.com
All the help you can offer will be well received and more than necessary, because we are on the edge of not being able to move forward with everything our little ones and our little ones require.
Let us say goodbye to 2020 and look forward to 2021 with infinite solidarity that will help our greyhounds continue to fight against the cruel fate that was designated almost at birth, and together build a future without mistreatment, neglect or barbarism.

Galgo Titan making good progress with Animal Rescue Spain
Do you remember this appeal. Here’s the latest good news about Titan.‘Titan is reborn again, thanks to you who have helped us, thanks to your response. Titan was just another greyhound, abandoned, run over and pulled until some good hearted girls stopped in the middle of the gutter and contacted us. Yesterday he had surgery again and everything went well, so far he will remain in.
We’ve done for Titan what any dog deserves. Sometimes we are told that we do too much for a dog that belongs to nobody but life is above all else for us and we are unstoppable together with you. Excited we call you. THANK YOU
Titan gets released! Watch the video
Thanks to you who help us, we make this moment possible.

Coping with hearing loss in dogs
My little Podenca Andaluz Bebe is now 17 going on 18 and age is starting to catch up with her. She’s already very grey in her face, on her legs and behind her ears. Cataracts are developing in her eyes and her hearing – in her gorgeous pointy ears – is failing. Here’s an interesting article on coping with hearing loss in dogs.

Many thanks to all my readers who care about the hounds and help where they can with donations to appeals here. In this terrible year the shelters and associations are suffering greatly from lack of funds, so be sure every donation is much appreciated.
Wishing you and yours a happy and healthy Christmas holiday and hoping 2021 is filled with positives, chiefly good health.

Asociacion Equipo Rescata Animal – saving hounds in Spain
‘This is Susana, a warrior and a friend, a volunteer rescuer at Asociación Equipo Rescate Animal – ERA that works tirelessly to rescue animals in need. ERA mostly rescues galgos (because so many are abandoned in the countryside), but will rescue any animal in need.
Her help has been invaluable for making Yo Galgo, our film. I went with her on many of her rescues throughout the years. Many times we would wait endless hours, without even seeing the dog. Rescuing is not easy, and requires a lot of preparation trying to gain the trust of the dog. Joining the rescues has made me understand the true effort of what they do. At ERA all rescuers are volunteers, and believe me they get where no one goes, and as many times as it is needed. Last year they rescued around 400 animals, most of them galgos. Please get to know them at @Asociación Equipo Rescate Animal – ERA and watch our film where you can also meet Susana and watch the rescue of this galgo.’
