  • League Against Cruel Sports – letter to write to them for the Galgos

Earlier in the year I was contact by a someone who had made contact with the League Against Cruel Sports in the UK, to ask if I could write to them about the plight of the galgos. As you will all know, it has been a terrible year for the Spanish hunting dogs, worse than ever, so time has been very short for me.

Natalie Osborne very kindly offered to compose a letter to send, and so I am asking you all to please print off the letter below – copy and paste it into a Word document, and then print and post – to see if the League will help to try and make a change for the galgos.

  • Galgos del Sol – saving yet more abandoned galgos in Murcia

Skip galgo 1 250 – Yes, there’s a galga dumped in there! You will remember the rescue of the Bullas dogs in Operation Rehala in January and then the Mazarron dogs from the gypsy in Murcia as well. Galgos del Sol have been very involved in these operations, taking many dogs into their care. This week they have rescued another half dozen abandoned galgos, one of whom had been dumped in a skip! – Luckily he has not been beaten almost to death- like esperanza a couple of years ago – just injured and terrified.

    Here’s the story so far.

‘It’s impossible to try and holiday when you live in Murcia. Galgos del Sol gets a call and goes out again and what do we find..?? A galga trapped in the rubbish dumpster and 3 galgos living on the rubbish tip. The galga trapped was very difficult because she was scared so we she would become aggresive when we tried to climb in, and the others were not so easy either.

  • L’Europe des Levriers – saving galgos from Jerez and Bullas, Murcia

Bea rescue 250Beatrice Monnet, President of L’Europe des Levriers in France, has been working in galgo and podenco rescue from Spain for about a decade. In 2006 she founded EDL and it has since gone from strength to strength. I have been on many rescues with her and what I saw and learnt provided much information for my book. Here is a video of the dogs rescued in February 2012, some of them you will see are galgos in Jerez perrera which were featured on Galgo News. One poor boy lost his paw, caught in a viscious snare; two of them had filaria (heartworm) but have responded really well to treatment.

Where it says ‘accueil’, that means the dog is in foster and available for adoption. The two white galgos live near me in France, and I will see them next month for my 3rd Dog Walk.
