    ”This galguito is left skeletal in a street of my people(village). It trembles with fear. It cannot continue in the street but I already do not have anywhere to put any more dogs. I take him food and water every day so that it does not move of the place and the neighbors will be hanging but nobody wants to receive it to me. Please, a protector who gathers it, I prepare it and send it where it is. it is very urgent as you can see. it is a preciousness(loveliness) and it is undernourished(malnourished). I will give him also the pills for desparasitarlo. it is very very urgent please.

  • Seville galgo in a terrible condition in the gypsy camp

    Hi, I write you from my desperation. I want to kill someone!!!

    I went to the settlement to take some pictures and I saw this galgo. Alone like excrement. Everybody wanted to keep him far away, but he wanted to come near us. When I saw him, I felt my soul to break.

    I say to him, ‘nobody has tried to treat your skin, you only wanted some food and water and only found kicks and laughs about your aspect. All those stupid men called me fool for taking you and put you in my car, to hug you and tell you that now you are not alone.’

    Saturday, May 19, 2012. Today was a very sad day. I went to the settlement to take pictures since before I left and I took them and spread when they were in residence, now a thing impossible to do, since I have no means. What I ask is help for them: benefit for partnerships that take them and seek their family, adoption, sponsors to get them out and bring to a kennels, distribution to refuges, etc…

  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – saving galgos

    A documentary about the work of Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert. It is in Spanish but the pictures tell the tale anyway. Some of the photos of hung galgos are old ones, some are in my book, but the film of the galgos in the hands of the hunter, the fear, the conditions, etc, illustrate just how little these men care for the dogs they have. It also illustrates the rehabilitation work done by the association.

  • Galgos aus Spanien and Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – working together in Seville

    Violetta2 250This poor soul was found on 16 April near the shelter Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert in Seville. Galgos aus Spanien are helping her recovery. which will be expensive! She is a small galga, only 52cm, and looks as though her hair will be brindle. She’s been called Violeta.

    Yet again, we ask how can any ‘human’ being let a dog get in this condition.

  • Save this galgo puppy in Seville – URGENT appeal

    ADAM galgo 250 3 2012ADAM is a very new association in Seville, concentrating on helping galgos and podencos. They don’t have a shelter, and have sent out this very urgent appeal.

    ‘We need shelter for ! NOW ! For a galgo puppy of 4 months that the owner wants to hang because it has a broken leg . If we do not remove it, he will kill it! We take care of the operation and all costs of recovery but we have no shelter or place to have it.

  • Sick and starving on the streets of Seville –

    Nana galgo pup Pro Galgo 250 3 3 2012Little Nana, a tiny galga pup, was found in this miserable state near Seville. She has very severe sarcoptic mange, totally anaemic, high fever and covered with infected wounds all over her little body…. GLORIA an animal lover asked Pro-Galgo for help and they redirected her to their friend and collaborator, vet FATIMA in Seville. Little NANA is on a drip, will have a blood transfusion from another galgo and will stay at least overnight in the clinic. Barely 6 months old, she is fighting for her life. Everyone hopes she will make it. If you can donate to her vet fees, please contact Pro-Galgo.

  • Seville to Malaga, walking the streets of Spain

    Polyana%20rescue 190Here’s the story of yet another abandoned galgo; it’s typical of the hundreds across Spain, now dumped and abandoned by the hunters to whatever fate befalls them – the hunters have no mercy, they don’t care.

    Polyana – a brindle galga walking the streets in Sevilla, lost and alone.
    Thrown out as trash and unwanted purpose with a story to tell of being a galga in Spain. Beaten down and feeling low, she wanders and begs, sneaking food where she can. Empty bins may have spilt a crumb, gravel on the floor may just have a grain, its not much to keep going but it could ease the pain.

  • Sightseeing in Seville – where to see local life

    Seville stray galgo and dog 250 1 2 2012These are a few photos of a pack of dogs living together in an industrial estate in Seville, surrounded by private warehouses and services. The dogs have been here for more than 2 years. The leader of the group is only about 3 years old, he’s the big brindle. There are bitches with pups, and you’ll see from the last pix that they even live amongst the bodies of their friends who didn’t make it.

    There have been denuncias to the police, and also appeals to Mairena Perrera (Protection Society of Mairena – Haha!) Still nothing has been done.
