  • Febrero – the cruellist month – documentary about the galgos

    Febrero DutchGalgoLobby 190On November 24th 2013 the DutchGalgoLobby foundation organizes its 2nd information day. Besides information on the activities of DutchGalgoLobby the public will get the premiere of the unique prize winning documentary ‘Febrero’ (February the cruellest month). This documentary is produced by Irene Blanquez, co-owner of Waggingtale films. (www.waggingtale.org).

    Without shocking images the documentary shows the reality of the life of the Galgo in Spain in a very intense way. DutchGalgoLobby has provided the Dutch subtitling of the film which itself is in the Spanish language with some English spoken parts. The premiere will be attended by Dutch DutchGalgoLobby supporters, press and members of various Dutch political parties.

    Febrero has won the prestigious ‘Festival de cine de Pamplona’ award in the section ‘Eductactif’.

  • 4th April 2013 – Happy Belated Birthday DutchGalgoLobby

    Apologies that this news is a little late. I’m currently in the UK for a funeral and flat clearing and have restricted access to a computer.

    Happy 2nd Birthday DutchGalgoLobby on 4th April 2013

    On April 4th, DutchGalgoLobby celebrates her 2nd birthday. In her relatively short existence, DutchGalgoLobby has achieved quite a lot. Dutch Politics are now well aware of the Galgo mistreatment in Spain and one of the parties even set up a resolution to ask the Dutch government to take action. Regretfully this resolution did not get enough votes to pass because they still think it is an internal Spanish problem, to be solved by Spain. (Subsidiarity principle)

    Therefore we approached the European Parliament which is in progress but takes time. European parliament is rather sluggish!

    We have been quite busy this summer. Twice we have met with mrs. Michele Striffler, Member of the European Parliament and vice-president of the Eurogroup on the Welfare of Animals.

    Last July, via their attachés, we presented Mrs.Striffler and Mrs Durant the two questions that we still see as an option after the questions posed by Mrs. Durant in 2010, on request of Galgos Ethique Europe, and the question posed in October 2011 by Mrs. Kartika Liotard, on request of Greyhounds Rescue Holland. The last request was supported by a number of European organisations. A complaint on behalf of citizens is premature, given the subsidiarity principle with regards to domestic animals, especially dogs and cats, and the obstacles found in the Spain on this matter.

  • DutchGalgoLobby & Galgos del Sol – beating the thieving galgueros!

    Dutch Galgo Lobby has sponsored a billboard for the galgos, and Galgos del Sol hasbeen busy getting it erected. It was stolen from it’s first site but, recovered, has been re-erected where it will be much more difficult to dismantle! Well done to Dutch Galgo Lobby and Galgos del Sol – more power to your elbows. Damn the hunters!
