Regular readers will know The Blue Greyhound shop on ebay where Susan Dawson raises funds for greyhounds and galgos. Her two galgas were recently chosen as winners of a competition and they were at Bark in the Park last weekend, in east Yorkshire. Here’s what Susan says, and some fabulous photos
The Blue Greyhound had a stall yesterday (17/8/2013) at Bark in the Park, a great show that we attend every year which promotes good dog ownership. Lots of great stalls. It was also a special day for Eli and Cassie who received their Dog Star Awards.
Gorgeous disabled galgo puppy Polar is the pin-up on the front of the 2014 Pepis Dog Refuge calendar. The calendars are superb quality, beautiful photos of rescued galgos and all proceeds go to help the dogs at Pepis. Here’s the link to purchase. Order now to be sure of getting one – or more.
Many thanks to Mandy Cash for taking me through the ‘complicated to me’ process of uploading a couple of short videos of my disabled galgo pup Polar at play with his best buddy Bracken. Hope you enjoy them and to see how he copes with his damaged hind leg. Meanwhile, galga Carmela sleeps through it all!
Here are some of the pix of David’s fabulous jump today, including the plane with the hole in the side out of which they jumped – and NOT the parachute they used! He’ll write his feelings about it all later. Please keep donating, we’re not quite there yet..
WHY am I jumping out of an aeroplane over the sea? I’ll tell you why………
I’ve loved dogs for as long as I can remember. My love of Greyhounds, and subsequently Levriers and Galgos started in England when an abandoned greyhound turned up at our home early one morning, and never left.
I’m passionate about anything to do with dogs and their welfare, and when my wife Beryl started “Galgo News” in November 2007, and later “Podenco Post” I was happy to support her work any way I could. Inevitably my support was largely passive as she built a vast network of global contacts trying to make a difference to the plight of the poor dogs of Spain.
Now that the farmers have cut our meadows for hay, Polar’s enjoying his morning walks with his best buddy Bracken and old boy Floyd – and David, who is counting down to his sponsored parachute jump on 23rd July to raise funds for Pepis Dog Refuge. Please sponsor him. All details here. He’s doing it in memory of dear friend Charlie Brannan who was going to jump on his 80th birthday in September but who sadly passed away suddenly last February, as well as for Polar’s pals still at Pepis.
I visited Prodeanse shelter when I was in Seville last year. The team work to help dogs in a very bad area for abandonment and cruelty. This is their story of Nieves.
SEVILLA / / Nieves… Rescued from the Cerro de Dos Hermanas
Nieves gave birth to her 9 puppies on the morning of the 27 June.
She was treated with amoxicillin/clavulamico (antibiotic), meloxican (anti-inflammatory) and a vitamin complex since she was rescued. On July 1 she went to the vet as an emergency.
