On October 2nd, we held a very important meeting in Madrid with SEPRONA (National Service of the Environment) and the Central Operational Unit for the Environment (UCOMA) of the Civil Guard. I was accompanied by Eva Ramos, legal advisor for PACMA, and our objective was clear: to demand more resources, more inspections, and a greater commitment to protecting hunting dogs.
We met with Major General Carlos Sarrión, head of SEPRONA, and several representatives from UCOMA to address a reality we can no longer ignore: the neglected situation faced by thousands of dogs used for hunting in Spain. (more…)

Refugio Kimba is one of the longest established animal shelters in Spain. Here’s the latest news about their work.
FINALLY THE END OF THE HELL.
On Monday 6th of February, the SPAP Refugio Kimba collaborated with Seprona Police (Guardia Civil) by rescuing 48 animals abandoned in horrendous conditions in Chiclana, Cadiz. The images were terrible, I think we will not be able to forget that scene ever in our whole life.
The smell was awful, corpses’ smells, we could not avoid tears just thinking how many dog would have died in that hell. It was really difficult to breath and be in a good mood, but we had to be so strong be possible in order to save all the animals. Their cries and moans were breaking our souls.
Following on from yesterday’s story about Dustbin contents, here is a further story from Scooby.
More proof that the Spanish HAVE to learn to neuter, the hunters have to STOP overbreeding…!

Your support is needed. Here’s the storyfrom Levriers sans Frontieres, translated by Danielle Hart, who translated my galgo book into French.
A French woman has 2 galgos and a Dogue argentin (not sure what they are called in English, Mastiffs maybe?) named Elias? She wanted to adopt a third galgo and decided to have Elias euthanized to make room for the new galgo! He was only 6 years old and she had had him since he was a puppy.
After a tragic accident, El Galgo Senior association in Alicante lost their president Pat. Scooby have stepped in to take over 100 galgos from their shelter. Scooby now needs the funds to transport the galgos from Alicante to Medina del Campo, so please donate if you can help. Even better, off to adopt one! contact Scooby direct at www.scoobymedina.com.
