League Against Cruel Sports – letter to write to them for the Galgos
Earlier in the year I was contact by a someone who had made contact with the League Against Cruel Sports in the UK, to ask if I could write to them about the plight of the galgos. As you will all know, it has been a terrible year for the Spanish hunting dogs, worse than ever, so time has been very short for me.
Natalie Osborne very kindly offered to compose a letter to send, and so I am asking you all to please print off the letter below – copy and paste it into a Word document, and then print and post – to see if the League will help to try and make a change for the galgos.

Disposable galga, maltreated by her galguero….
Look at this absolutely stunning galga. Here’s her story. Literal translation, I’m afraid, as it’s late and I’m out all day tomorrow with my 5 hounds, at a fun dog show.
‘Hi I’m a dog of about seven months that my owner (Hunter)no longer need, due to my right leg breakage. I am very young but already I have fractured one of my legs, he forced me to run run and run and because of the effort that I broke the tendons…
also I have shot wounds on the body, that did it to scare me and so run more rapid…
now I have it a little himchada and cojeo when I get tired much
but I still enjoying running like a Madwoman as good gauge that I am. -
Dog-Walking in Spain – Spanish law explained
A couple of days ago I asked the question – what is the law in Spain on exercising galgos, if they are companion dogs. Andrew Hurrell, a founder of Noahs Arc in Mazarron, has personal experience of the problem; he shares it here with you.

My partner and I worked tirelessly with a dog rescue for three years in the Murcia area, and fostered and rescued numerous Greyhound types (called Galgos in Spain) which were cast off by hunters at the end of each season; you can imagine that hunters are not the most well thought of individuals amongst the dog rescue fraternity in Murcia.

Another video showing hunting with galgueros; note some of the horses have chopped tails – many of the Spanish take off manes and tails – read about the annual horse wrestling fiesta in Galicia – they don’t think the poor animals need to keep the flies off!
And further remember, most of these men will dump their dogs at the end of January, if not before.

This virtual demo has been set up by Barbara LeFranc of Le Bulletin des Levriers, to demand the banning of hunting with galgos. Not sure how it works, see Barbara’s comment below. It’s in French, but don’t let that stop you voting if you want to.

Hunting in Spain, on horseback, with dogs –
This link is to a Spanish hunting federation. Whilst I curse every breath these men and women take, if you watch the video, you will see what hunting with galgos is all about. Not only does a hare have to run for its life, but the bloody hunters riding horses….knacker the horses’ feet and legs on the hard ground – the horses will feel so much pain after the gallop and they are probably lame for weeks, if not permanently. More horse meat for the Italian market? (Apologies to my Italian readers, but where else will the knackered horses go?) Hey, and you horse riders like me, what sort of crap riding seat has this woman hunter?!! Seat too far back on the saddle, so pressure on the horse’s kidneys, legs too short for a gallop, toes pointing forward, not sitting balanced in the centre of the saddle……grrrrrr – crap rider.
