You remember Sofie, the galga abandoned in Badajoz earlier in the year, whose lower jaw was brutally smashed by some sadistic person. We’ve followed her progress under the care of volunteer Silvia and her vet, as the galga had her jaw rebuilt. In another 2 weeks she will be winging her way across the Atlantic ocean to her forever home in America under the guardianship of GRIN. Read her story and see the latest amazing pictures of this survivor. Isn’t she beautiful?

Update on galgo Ruso, victim of a hit & run accident in Murcia
Update on Ruso, the rough-haired galgo taken to Los Infiernos refuge in Murcia, where Tina is a volunteer. Because the refuge is in difficulties at the moment, we have been working behind the scenes at Galgo News and with GRIN in the US and Silvia in Valencia. Ruso travelled to Valencia where he has been seen by Silvia’s vet and x-rays taken of his injuries. He has a broken hip, which will require an operation.
Silvia will be sending more news when it is available. Bless this poor boy, he has been in such pain, but now he will get the best of care. Tina has used donations so far to cover his transport and towards the vet fees.

Galgo Russo, victim of hit & run – please donate to vet fees for him

She has been picking up abandoned galgos regularly all summer, many of them now rehomed, but still there are a couple of galgos and a couple of podencos needing forever homes.
The latest incumbent is Russo. Here’s what Tina says about him.

Podenca Maria, injured and surviving on the streets of Seville
This little podenca is Maria, who was abandoned and has lived most of her life on the streets of a village near to Seville, too terrified to be caught. Searching for food amongst rubbish, dodging vehicles on the road, bearing puppies.
She was finally captured last month by an association ARCA, along with her 3 puppies. She has been hit twice by vehicles and has suffered a compression of the spinal cord which has resulted in a loss of feeling, and poor movement.

Live in the UK? Please support this Early Day Motion to save racehorses
I have been passionate about dogs and horses all my life. I still have two horses at my home in France; we have a lovely network of lanes and tracks to ride during the cool months of autumn, winter and spring – too much heat and too many flies in the summer!
My home in Suffolk was a mere 25 miles from the world centre of horseracing – Newmarket. I have always been sickened by the overbreeding of racehorses and I absolutely hate horse racing – especially ‘over sticks’ as jump racing is called.

Podenco Shadow in his forever home – escaped from life on the streets in SpainSha
Some of you may remember Shadow, a little podenco with Sofia El Refugio Escuela in Seville, looking for a forever home. He looked so much like a male version of my little Podenca Andaluz Bebe, who was rescued injured on a Seville motorway. Have a look at the pictures on this link of Shadow in his forever home, plus Leela and Esther, a couple more galgos who have also found paradise in homes outside Spain.
