  • No Voice No Choice, 6th August, Chertsey, UK – support Galgo News/Podenco Post Stand,

    As I am due to go into hospital next week for a shoulder operation and will be unable to drive etc for at least 6 weeks, Kim Webster has kindly offered to organise a stand for me at No Voice No Choice, a huge animal event being held at Chertsey, Surrey, on 6th August.

    We want to give as much publicity as possible about the plight of the beautiful galgos and podencos who suffer so much at the hands of the Spanish hunters, whether on mainland Spain or the Spanish Islands.

  • IDOD Dog Walk – walking lanes & tracks in France for rescued dogs in Spain

    IDOD Dog Walk 17 04 2011 033 350 International Day of the Dog is now into its 6th year, always on the last Sunday in April. 2011 so happens to also be Easter Sunday, so I held my fundraising IDOD Dog Walk a week early on 17th April. The sun shone brightly on St Pardoux with over 50 dogs and their loving owners turning up for a leisurely stroll along the delightful lanes and tracks which surround this small village in Western France, where I live.

  • Voice for the Voiceless – Sharon appeals on behalf of Noah’s Arc Murcia

  • Scooby Auction – donations needed before 15 May – please help

    It is hard to believe that this year will be our 3rd Scooby North America Auction. Actually, we are having 2 auctions this year. One in June and another in December. In the past two years, with your help we have raised enough money to help install a much-needed tile floor in the Hospital and Surgery Center and build numerous brick shelters in the paddocks at the Scooby Animal Refuge in Medina del Campo, Spain.

  • International Dog Show, Pau, France – calling all galgo and podenco owners, support it

    Pau Expo 16 17 April 2011 16 and April 17, 2011 in Pau, southern France, there will be an International Dog Show CACIB CACS organized by the Society of Canine Département Pyrénées Atlantiques. More than 1,200 dogs of all breeds will be exhibited and judged.

    On this occasion, L’Europe des Levriers has been invited to hold an information stand on the fate suffered by galgos in Spain. We will have the opportunity to speak on the podium in front of more than 2000 people of all nationalities, and it Will be translated in Spanish and English.

  • Happy Ending Final Feliz – but not such a happy ending

    Story just received, illustrates some of the problems facing the volunteers who struggle to help the abandoned dogs of Spain.

    ‘For the last year we have been arranging car boot sales every Sunday in a place called El Marquesado, and successfully got an income for the animals that need help in our area. It has been very hard workload on all our volunteers, but they have done the job without complaining. This car boot sale has been held on what we thought was wasteland as this was an unfenced, abandoned area. We were unable to find out if anyone owned it.

  • Pro-Galgo’s new project – spend a summer holiday helping

    Pro-Galgo have a new project. Mo Swatek explains. ‘JOIGOS (our new association dedicated to the preparation of dogs for therapy purposes and therapy for panic hounds) as well as for the hounds of PRO-GALGO, we found the perfect place to rent.. It’s a plot of 2.5 hect (ca 5acres) of fenced land but unfortunatly far to big to let the dogs loose. Read more here.
