Protectora Scooby – saving galgos from the Halloween House of Horror

From Fermin Perez at Protectora Scooby.
One of our most harrowing rescue missions in a long time was at Halloween on 31 October. We received a call from a hunter who was giving up hunting and wanted his 9 galgos to come into Scooby’s care. We drove in the pouring rain to the address we were given. The circumstances the dogs were kept in were some of the most horrific I’ve seen in many years. The conditions were absolutely squalid: Debris, filth, rats and an unbearable stench. The galgos themselves were not in bad shape. They needed vet care, castrating/ spaying and rehab. (more…)

Galgo Project EU – information needed on the numbers of dogs in shelters

Galgo Project EU is a Dutch organisation dedicated to supporting, rescuing, and giving a voice to galgos and podencos. They work closely with Spanish shelters, help dogs find safe homes, and raise awareness about the structural mistreatment these dogs still suffer.
With Galgo Project EU, we’re gathering data, testimonies, and concrete evidence to build a detailed dossier for the European Parliament. Our goal is clear:
To hold Spain accountable for not applying Article 13 of the Lisbon Treaty, and to push for equal, EU-wide protection of all dogs, including galgos and podencos, without exceptions. (more…)

Galgos Rescue Almeria – another unwanted galga now safe
From Sandy Galgoslover
Recently we received a call about this girl. Unwanted… “no longer useful”… words no animal should ever have to hear. You can imagine the rest.
This sweet soul lives with a hunter. She has given her whole life: worked, obeyed, never complained. She endured humiliation, swallowed disappointment, and never understood why love for her had to be so scarce. (more…)

Galgo Rescue Almeria – more unwanted galgos arrive
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria. Helping animals in need never ends.
A few days ago, we received another cry for help—two galgos desperately needed help. so we drove to pick them up. Their owner told us that he and his wife were struggling with serious health issues and could no longer care for them. At first glance, these two sweethearts seem fine: calm, friendly, grateful. But they need medical care before they can start their new lives. Next week, they’ll have a vet checkup. That same week, two other galgo girls were dumped next to our rescue center — alone, confused, abandoned. It remains incomprehensible why asking for help is so difficult… Asking for help is free, and it can save lives. -
