  • Podencos with SARA in the Canary Islands – looking for forever homes

SARA Pirulo 02 2011 190 It’s extremely hard to find forever homes for abandoned dogs on the Spanish Islands, particularly the beautiful, affectionate and loyal podencos. SARA Lanzarote have these two beauties who desperately need the chance of life outside a shelter. Andrea describes them.

Pirulo is a very friendly and affectionate Podenco. He is obedient and will always watch out for the person that’s with him. He prefers to be cuddled and stroked than go to run or hunt, which is very special for these dogs. He is as well friendly with other dogs both male and female. He likes to be taken for walks, does not pull in the lead, we think he could even go without the lead.

  • Publicity for Podencos – help and forever homes wanted

For many years Rick and Lesley Beauchamp in the UK have been helping rehomed podencos rescued by SARA Lanzarote; virtually the only chance of a loving forever home is on mainland Europe. Thanks to Ed of Podencoworld for forwarding this clip of a BBC interview with Lesley. Please contact Ed or SARA Lanzarote if you are interested in helping these fabulous hounds.

  • Podencoworld – helping the podencos of La Linea, Spain

Podencoworld 01 2011 250 Passionate about Podencos! Why didn’t I find this website before? Maybe because I haven’t had time to do so much research into podenco sites because the Galgo news always takes so much time, as did researching for my book! Have a look at this very interesting website, Podencoworld. This link should take you through to the English translation; if it doesn’t click on the Union Jack on the lefthand side.

  • Sponsor a dog on Lanzarote, Tenerife, Ibiza – the best Christmas present!

It’s easy to overlook the problem for the abandoned dogs on the Spanish Islands, and so here’s a reminder of some of the associations who work extremely hard to save, care for and rehome these deserving animals. Podencos especially have a very hard life and their only hope of a future is off the islands on mainland Europe.

With Christmas coming up, why not think about Sponsoring a Dog. Here are links to the associations on Tenerife, Lanzarote and Ibiza who really need your help.
