  • Trip to Spain 1 – Scooby Residencia Valladolid – adopt Tula

Cobie goods 250I’ve just got back from a trip to Spain, catching up with friends and shelters and the animal rescue work going on. It’s a while since I’ve been; last year was out because I had serious shoulder injuries which required an operation; this year I had serious mobility problems with one of my horses. So my visit was somewhat overdue!

The planned route was Valladolid, Seville and Malaga; then drive straight back via Madrid. My first port of call was Cobie at Scooby Residencia Valladolid. I first met Cobie at a refuge in Cordoba back in June 2009 and she’s been a very useful and knowledgeable contact for me regarding the situation in Spain for the galgos.

  • R.I.P Lucho

Chris Mosey, Lucho & co 250Those of you who have a copy of my book will have seen the photos and read about Lucho, who developed leptospirosis and was nursed back to health by his devoted family, especially Chris. He had a very bad start, injured, rescued by Scooby, leg had to be amputated. And yet, with his forever family in the US, he received an overload of love and care. He became ill late last year and has been nursed by both Chris and Dr Couto of Ohio University. Sadly, he lost his final fight. I am sure you will all join me in sending comfort wishes to Chris and family, inluding the two remaining canines.

  • Spanish holidays – help out at a dog shelter

Tara Casa holidays 2 250 2 2012Now the freezing snow and icy weather is behind us (hopefully) we can look forward to Spring and think about holidays. Many people like to do more than just sit on a beach, and Vivienne Wharton has some suggestions. She lives in the Ricote area of Murcia in eastern Spain and has become very involved in the plight of abandoned dogs. She has linked together many rescue associations and volunteers and even got involved in protesting at a bull fight last month!

Many shelters and refuges offer accommodation to people willing to help with caring for their animals and Vivienne is co-ordinating help in her area. You can read about the holidays here.

  • Seville galgos, another 33 arrive at Scooby Medina

Seville galgos 33 arrive 14 02 2011 250 More of the 100 galgos rescued from Seville have arrived at the Scooby Medina refuge. Here’s what Cobie says.

‘Last week arrived the first 33 galgos from another 100 from Seville, the rest will come this week. I´ll send you pictures of them and also pictures from 2 galgos of this group who have burn marks on their thighs, This is something the gypsies do, like a kind of microchip but more painfull for the poor dogs. They do it with acid from batteries or with a hot iron like with horses or cows.

  • Podenco Scooby is also looking for his forever family, he is in the UK already

Scooby Pro Galgo 07 2010 250 And yet another podenco, in the UK already, looking for a forever home. He’s with Pro-Galgo and this is what Mo Swatek says about him.

‘Goku, or Scooby as we have now called him, is one of the Podencos that arrived from Spain recently. He is around 18 months old and is absolutely stunning. He has the most amazing ears and grin and wonderful red coat.

Scooby is very playful and loves to play tug with a raggy toy, either with his kennel mate or with visitors. He can still be a little shy of new people but is very loving and confident when he gets to know you.Scooby could live with older (10+), calm and gentle children.
