    REFUGE LIFE

    by Alan Brian

Who said that refuge life is not good, that is not strictly true,
We are fed and watered every day, cos that’s what the owners do.

We can go into our great big compound when the cleanings being done,
It even has a little pool to cool us from the sun.

There’s even a place where we can go to lay out in the shade
That’s got carpet on the dirt but it’s not been properly laid.

That’s another thing about refuge life; they never do forget
That if you’re feeling poorly, you get taken to the vet.

We even have a misting system to cool us from the sun,
So refuge life is not so bad,

    So please tell everyone.

  • Galgo Ky – AWSM need a sponsor for him, and a forever home

Ky AWSM 250 3 2013Animal Welfare Support Murcia does a wonderful job in helping all types of dogs, puppies, pedigrees, puppies, xbreeds…they don’t discriminate. This is Ky, a galgo they have in their care who needs sponsoring. If you would like to sponsor this stunning galgo – or even ask to adopt him – details here. At the same time, they are working hard to save some dogs in a hellish situation and desperately need somewhere for the dogs to go, so that they can denounce the owner for cruelty, neglect and anything else they can throw at him. I know these dogs aren’t galgos, but I ask and ask for people to make a denuncia in cruelty cases. So please, share this appeal and contact any friends you have who could foster any of these dogs, or donate to them going into kennels.

  • Sponsor a kennel, sponsor a piece of fencing, sponsor a bag of cement! 112carlotagalgos appeals

Finca Bonita prison 190Many of the Spanish refuges and associations are very small, existing from month to month on donations, the local councils turning a blind eye to the problem of abandonment of dogs, even though by law they should provide a dog pound.

112carlotagalgos is one such small association in Malaga. Charl del Rio has been working on behalf of the galgos and podencos in Spain for many years, latterly caring for traumatised, injured and sick dogs prior to rehoming. She’s also given talks in local schools about the problem of abandonment of dogs. Her dream has been to have an educational centre where children can visit and learn to respect animals and care for them, especially dogs. Now she hopes her dream is about to come true. But she needs your help. Here’s the story.

  • Scooby saves galga Skinny from Seville – read her story

Skinny1 Scooby 12 2010 250 So many galgos are abandoned by the galgueros to take their chance on surviving as best they can. Hundreds of them starve, fearful of humans, their only chance of help being from someone who is able to catch them, before they are injured on the road. This is the story of Skinny, rescued and rehabilitated by Scooby Medina.

  • Sponsor a dog on Lanzarote, Tenerife, Ibiza – the best Christmas present!

It’s easy to overlook the problem for the abandoned dogs on the Spanish Islands, and so here’s a reminder of some of the associations who work extremely hard to save, care for and rehome these deserving animals. Podencos especially have a very hard life and their only hope of a future is off the islands on mainland Europe.

With Christmas coming up, why not think about Sponsoring a Dog. Here are links to the associations on Tenerife, Lanzarote and Ibiza who really need your help.
