  • Zaragoza perrera denounced – Seprona takes action

Podenca Zaragoza 1 08 2011 250Seprona investigated the work methods in the perrera in Zaragoza, in reaction to several denuncias made by animal protection organisations. They found that euthanasia was performed without anaesthesia, animals were put alive in freezers to die: mainly pups and cats. Seprona handed their investigation reports to the authorities on May 2, 2012, they want the owner to be prosecuted for violating the law on protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals. Report in Spanish.

I am somewhat surprised to read this, as the vet there has worked to help associations publicise dogs for adoption, and facilitate adoptions. Also, I would be very interested to hear from someone who works in a perrera, dealing daily with the killing of dogs and cats. How do they cope with it, how long are the able to work in that job?

  • Greyhounds to China – Pix of Dublin protest 20/03/2011 & America 18/03/2011

There were over 70 people and about 10 dogs, mostly greyhounds, at the Dublin demo yesterday, with photos/videos at see http://tinyurl.com/DublinGreyhoundExportsDemo and http://pix.ie/sensibleken/album/404974 Link to protests in America

Let’s hope there will be thousands out around Spain for the manifestation demonstration on 25th March. Here’s the link to find one near you,.

  • Grand Protest in Spain – 25th March – join a march near you!

On www.noalmaltratoanimal.org you can read or see about a big manifestation through whole Spain on the 25th of March against mistreating of animals and longer sentences in prison for people who are guilty of this.

There is a comprehensive list of all the cities and towns in which a march is organised, time and place to meet. Please circulate this far and wide throughout Spain and get the population motivated. So many Spanish people are concerned about the bad press in the rest of the world about bull-fighting, abandoned dogs and cats, horse wrestling, animals in fiestas, donkey stoning……

  • Zaragoza Killing Station – podencos need saving – please help

Podenca Zaragoza 1 08 2011 250 The hunting season is now over and hunters are getting rid of their ‘4-footed tools’!
These are the Perricos to be slaughtered in a few days at the Zaragoza perrera. This is the appeal I received

‘We are only two volunteers who have many dogs in kennels which we pay the fees and we can’t take any more dogs. We have all this responsibility on our shoulders and we desperately need adopters for the dogs in our care, and more so we need special people who can rescue these young podencos before they are sacrificed in a few days.
