RIP Bracken – safe journey across the bridge to your friends
Today we had to say farewell to Bracken. X-ray and endoscopy showed problems in his oesophagus and a tumour in his lungs which was bleeding. On palliative care eventually he was unable to keep food down and we had to take the sad decision to visit the vet.Bracken came to us 11 years ago from Tina Solera as a 2 year old, rescued with a damaged leg outside a Spanish supermarket. Originally he was just a foster en route to his forever family but, due to a serious change of circumstances he came back to us forever. He loved his walks in the meadows, joining our French lurcher Floyd, galgas Sahara and Carmela, little podenca Bebe and latterly galgo Polar. Apart from Bebe, he has said farewell to the other 4, so now he will join them and share happy memories.
I am concerned for Bebe, she is 18 years old and has never lived without the company of at least one other dog. Having now lost Polar (April) and Bracken (July), we will take a step back before inviting another needy canine into our home. So much grief in such a short space of time.

A sad time for galgo Bracken
Eleven years ago galgo Bracken came to us as a foster from Tina Solera at Galgos del Sol. We took him to a lovely home in the UK where he joined their adopted tripod greyhound. Sadly some months later the lady of the house was diagnosed with bone cancer and the consultant advised that the sighthounds be returned. My OH had wanted to adopt Bracken himself so, no more ado, he got in the car and drove to the UK, collected Bracken and brought him home to us. He’s been a wonderful companion, as they all have been, joining the gang and especially loving the fun with his best buddy Polar.Over the last 4 years he has said farewell to French lurcher Floyd, galgas Sahara and Carmela, then inJvanuary we moved to live in the UK, bringing Bracken, Polar and Bebe. In April this year he said farewell to Polar, from lymphoma, leaving just himself and little Podenca Bebe, 18 years old.

Heartbreaking – galgo puppy thrown alive in the trash in Osuna – Galgos112 to the rescue
What is the mindset of these people – who chuck live puppies in the trash bin?! From Galgos112‘Last Monday a good man went to throw the trash away and inside the dumpster ‘something’ shouted out, it was the voice of this little guy asking for help. Luckily it was heard and now it’s safe. How many people don’t hear, how many die?
Sres of the Osuna Government team, start already with responsible tenure campaigns, sterilization and control of the animals of our people, because what happens there is nothing normal, and no one wants to see it.’
Thank goodness for the kind Spaniards who love animals.

Galgos Rescue Almeria – Ireland, Spain, greyhound Maluma is now looking for a forever home

He was brought to Spain from Ireland at a young age, probably not good enough for British racetracks anymore, and sold to a Spanish breeder. We don’t know whether Maluma was also racing in Spain, is sure he was used for breeding.
It’s not uncommon that they breed with Greyhound and Galgo, in an effort to combine the best of both worlds.Maluma is a very quiet, loyal and affectionate dog that doesn’t want to be used to race at all, he only wants to be loved and have a soft seat to lie down. (no cats for this handsome boy)
