  • Received your book? Additional information for you

Would people who receive a copy of my book ‘From Heaven to Hell – The Story of the Galgo Espanol’ which does not contain a bibliography of weblinks to websites for reference purposes, please email me and I will email one by return.

In order to try and keep postage costs to a minimum, (postage in France is expensive) the first print run of my book did not include the full bibliography. However, all books now include this.

  • Trial by Tape Measure – The Story of Lennox

British dog owners will be aware of the hastily and flawed Dangerous Dogs Act, which includes Breed Specific Legislation, section one of the DDA. A Belfast family whose beloved pet dog has been seized because of this law, spoke with Animal campaigner and singer Maria Daines and she has written an article on the subject in K9 magazine, which you can read here.

  • HELP this Podenco, injured, covered in ticks, still surviving on the streets of Spain!

Podenco abandoned Charl 2 02 2010 250 It is now the beginning of July, and still there are galgos and podencos loose and abandoned on the streets of Spain. The refuges and shelters are full to overflowing, foster homes saturated……………

This little podenco is still living on the street in Puebla de Cazalla, being eaten to death by ticks, he will surely now have ehrlichiosis and need to get treatment urgently. And he has a wounded leg, raw to the bone, and even the ticks have got at that.

And he is still on the street. The volunteers in the area are desperate – please can anyone take him in. Contact Silvia who knows more about where he is.

UPDATE 05/07/2010: The podenco is in Madrid and has now been taken in by a volunteer – all praise to her and thank heaven for that. And curses on all the people who walked passed him and ignored his plight – I just don’t understand them.

    More pix.

  • Lady Carla – galga saved from an agonising roadside death by Baas Galgo

Lady Carla 1 Baas Galgo 06 2010 210 Lady Carla – who looks very much like my beloved galga Carmela – was the galga left extremely badly injured on the hard shoulder of a road in Spain. Rescued by brave volunteers and put back together by an amazing vet and his team of nurses, she is now in a foster home and making a slow recovery. Sandra Baas of Baas Galgo has written an update. The cost of the vet fees are still ongoing, details of how to donate – however small an amount, are at the end of the story.

  • Oco & Gaby escape Spain to new lives – Oco needs a forever home

Oco journey home head Fran PC 06 2010 250 It’s been a busy week behind the scenes at Galgo News, with two more dogs brought out of Spain for new lives.

Oco is the little podenco caught by Charl when she was hoping to catch the Estepona galga. The galga, Oco and a cat had all been surviving together on the streets; the galga was the only one not to be caught.

Gaby was an abandoned galga living on the streets further south. It took Tina two weeks to eventually catch her and take her back to the Los Infiernos refuge where she is a volunteer.

  • The first Jerez (Cadiz) Galgos are safe – donations still needed for their vet treatment

Jerez galgos wanda-oma1 Pro Galgo 06 2010 220 Mo Swatek of Pro Galgo is happy to say that the first of the Jerez galgos are out and safe in Catalonia.

‘In a very fast trip of less than 36 h we went for the first load of the jerez galgos in danger to be pts. We brought 11 galgos (3 females and 8 males) plus 2 minpins. The mother had been abused as a breeding bitch and when not productive anymore given away, the baby could not be sold as in Spain people want very very young puppies and once over 4 month old, they are nearly impossible to sell. I had to take them because we were afraid that somebody adopts only the pup letting the old mum alone.

  • Is Logan (Australia) Greyhound Stadium already being constructed?

Whilst greyhound action groups around the world are protesting about the possibility of building a greyhound racing stadium at Logan, Queensland, Australia, and one of the comment posters, Sue Burley of Australia, is explaining why Oz greyhounds live such fantastic lives, this post has been sent to me. Perhaps Sue would now honestly explain just how far this project has got, since this post is over one year old!

Was driving past the Cronulla Park site this morning and lo and behold there were the Engineers with their equipment and a big drilling machine working on the EPA report? Not rumour, fact seen with my own eyes.
Now why would they be continuing with the EPA report if Logan wasn’t going ahead Dan?
