No lengths to which the galguero will go to kill his dog!

    IN BENAMARIEL

This galgo with a muzzle, does not allow itself to be caught, so it will not be able to drink, or eat.
People of the area, notify the Civil Guard and try to hold him if you see him.

Update – it has been caught, I have asked what happened to it, if it was chipped or not.

  • e-collars being used on rescued hunting dogs in England!

On 29th June I published an article on e-collars and why they should be banned in the UK – they are already banned in Europe. It has come to the notice of a Spanish rescue association in Valencia that an adopter in England is using an e-collar on a young rescued podenco to curb its prey drive! This is on the advice of an ‘animal behaviourist’! Of course the Podenco fraternity are up in arms and doing all they can to assist the rescue association to get the poor podenco away from these 2 women.

This is the weblink to the story.

  • Galga Urraca with Galgos Rescue Almeria – help needed with Leishmania treatment

    GRA Urruca nails 1 400
    From Sandy Galgoslover

Meet Urraca, This sweetheart is 4 years old and comes from the Badajoz region. Urraca could no longer satisfy her master so she had to disappear. Luckily she’s safe now.

Upon her arrival at the Rescue Center we noticed that this girl’s nails were terribly long. What we already feared, the blood test confirmed “positive for Leushmania”. In the meantime, we have already started her treatment. Since the level of her leishmania is very high, we were recommended for treatment with injections. This treatment is immediately absorbed into the body.

Glucantime is a very heavy treatment, fortunately for Urraca the disease hasn’t affected her organs so she can endure this treatment without any danger. She’s doing fine at the moment.

  • Separation anxiety in dogs

We have always had more than one dog so we’ve been lucky that we have never had to deal with the problem of separation anxiety. But galgos and podencos are used to living in packs, so it is something which could be a problem if a rescue is adopted as an only dog. Having said that, some – notably ex racing greyhounds – have to live as an only dog.

This article from the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals PDSA explores the problem.

  • Galgos 112 – educating the young Spanish

    Galgos 112 school 1 400
Many Spanish rescue associations visit schools to educate the young Spanish that animal cruelty and hunting is not acceptable.
Galgos 112 recently supported a visit to a school where the children were introduced to 2 adopted galgos.

‘Jade and Fabiola, accompanied Mei and Pol to the Doctor Sobrequés school in Bescanó (Girona), to give a talk about animal abuse to all the boys and girls in the first grade.

They talked about animal abuse in general and what galgos suffer in particular. Everything focused in a pedagogical way and, above all, putting a lot of emphasis on the good things that boys and girls can do to help animals.
