  • Lenticular Sclerosis in dogs

    Bo face 1 400
A couple of years ago we adopted an older Spanish podenco who was blind. His eyes are cloudy blue, but we believe he can see shadows. He amazes us with how he finds his way around life, using his ears and nose. e’s even learned to walk up the ramp into the back of the car. Our suspicion is that his blindness is the result of an eye infection untreated – we know how bad the Spanish hunters are at looking after their dogs, especially if it involves vet fees.

This weblnk takes you to an interesting article about blindness in dogs.

And I would say to any readers – if your dog starts losing its sight, it is nothing to be concerned about, the dog will cope amazingly well. And use a Blind Dog harness, it’s a great conversation starter and a good way to tell people about galgos!

  • Another injured and abandoned soul picked up after the end of hunting

    GRA Chiqui 400 2 2 24
    From Galgos Rescue Almeria.

The already reserved dogs haven’t left yet and the requests for help keep pouring in. 2 Days ago we were asked if we still had room to help this sweetheart. We are already overcrowded but saying no is not an option.

Yesterday, in collaboration with Friends of Mazarrón Animals, this girl was brought to our Rescue center. On arrival we saw a real fear monger, once she was in the secure area things went a bit better. This sweetheart has a wound on her back and is missing 2 nails, one on the front leg and one on the hind leg. Fortunately, she is safe now and can recover from her past. We would like to thank @Xiki Apellido and her friend for bringing her safely to the center.

You can support our dogs for 1€ a month by joining our teaming group.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – galgos needing help

    GRA galgos needing help 400 2 2024
    From Sandy Galgosover

Hunting is finished again. It’s distressing to see how many galgos are no longer useful to hunters and are dumped.
It seem like it gets worse every year. Galgo’s Rescue Almeria will take care of some of them.

Your help / support will be needed to prepare these sweethearts (blood tests, vaccinations, identification chip / European passport, sterilization / castration,…) for their new future.

  • Back on line!

for the past 6 weeks we have been without Internet at home because a car left the road, hit a British Telecom box and burst into flames, melting the box and all the connections inside. This has meant I have had to rely on my wonderful webmaster Craig to post occasional news on my blogs.

Happy to be back on line now and hopefully we’ll be back to normal with news on podencos in Spain and the Spanish Islands.

  • The protozoal parasite giardia in dogs

The protozoal parasite giardia in dogs can be a minor nuisance or a royal pain to treat and totally clear.

Symptoms of giardia in dogs include diarrhea, maldigestion, and malabsorption. Diarrhea is often intermittent, based on the parasite’s life cycle.

Giardia is contagious in dogs as long as giardia cysts remain in the feces. It can be difficult to clear the infection.

  • Poem of a dog

    Poem
I’m the one who’s always waiting for you.

Your car has a special sound that I have imprinted on my senses, I can recognize it in a thousand.

Your steps have a magic bell.

Your voice is music to my ears.

If I see your joy, it makes me happy!.

    Your scent is the best.

    Your presence moves my senses.

Your waking up wakes me up

I contemplate you sleeping and for me you are my God, I am happy watching your sleep.

Your look is a ray of light.

Your hands upon me, hold the lightness of peace and the sublime display of infinite love.

When you leave, I feel a huge void in my heart.

I keep waiting for you again and again.

I am the one who will wait for you all your life today, tomorrow and forever:

    I am your dog
