• Puntanimals – galga Candela needs a foster or adoption

    Puntanimals Candela 1 400
    From Puntanimals

We need a foster home for Candela.

A few months ago they gave us notice that a very weak skeletal sparrow had appeared in a field. We took care of her and she has since been recovering in foster care. As you can see below CANDELA doesn’t look the same, it’s great.

Her foster can no longer take care of her, and we believe that entering the shelter would be a very sudden change for her, so we ask you to make a space in your home for her.

We take care of feeding, vetting, etc.. Just needs a home until she finds her forever family.

  • Galga stolen, abandoned on a busy roundabout because she’s too old

    Seville abandoned galga 400 9 2023
Hunting season in Spain will soon start again, for 4 months. How many galgos will be injured, abandoned – far too many born with no hope of a happy future at the hands of a galguero. This story was published on my Save the Galgo facebook page this week.

URGENT WARNING: GALGA IN DANGER OF HIT AND RUN

Sevilla. Mayor of Guadaíra Round two. Passing on the Decathlon
Found Barcina Galga without collar. She’s about to be run over. Not picked up. Does anyone recognize her or can help her?

Then in one of the comments there was this information from Antonio Valle.

This galga was stolen yesterday (2/9/2023) at noon and her two daughters also. This one has been released because she is old, she has an owner and since we saw the message we have not stopped looking for her until it went dark! Tomorrow we will be sweeping the area with more people to find her. If you see it again someone do not hesitate to contact me in private message and thank you very much to everyone.

  • Pins In Need Scotland – joining the Kilt Walk raising funds for pods and galgos

Pam McLeod is joining the Kilt Walk next month raising funds to help yet more galgos and podencos make their way to the UK and forever homes. It’s almost a year ago when Pam very kindly responded to my plea for help for a young podenco badly injured on the roadside. Wilf made an excellent recovery and travelled to the UK and his forever home.

Please sponsor Pam, she’s been training hard for the 23km walk.

  • Protectora Scooby – please help feed our animals

    Horses donkeys hay 400
    From Scooby Protectora.

Last year, climatologically speaking, was very bad for our sanctuary residents, and this year is coming just as or even worse…
The forage is scarce and we are having to buy a lot of thought to elders to keep our animals well fed, assuming this a great economic discharge.
We have sown alfalfa and we are hoarding and taking advantage of all that we can, but this is not enough for the 50 horses and donkeys and the 46 sheep and goats who live in our Sanctuary, so we ask help for them, so they can have the happy life that they deserve.
Any contribution will be more than welcome.

  • Galga Candela – a slow road to recovery

    Carole van Tielen Candela 400 8 2023
My female galgas were usually around 23kg in weight, my males 25-27kg. So I find it impossible to imagine a galga weighing only 11kg!

This is Candela who arrived at the end of May in a deplorable state, weighing only 11 kg. Here she is at 19kg. She is 1 and half years old. She is still scared of humans. But gets along great with dogs.

So now she is hoping for a forever family. Adoption in Belgium through Carole van Tielen.

  • Galga Grace – a very sick hound

    FromSandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria

On December 7, 2022, our help was asked to take in 3 galgos. Grace was one of them. Grace is a treasure, when she was found she was malnourished and dehydrated. We asked our host family if she could be taken care of with them for a while until she was stable enough to stay in a large pack. It soon became clear that Grace was a worry child and has to deal with heart problems (heart murmur). The first cardiogram showed a defect in one of the heart chambers. Medication was prescribed and another check-up was scheduled.

Grace recently had another appointment with the cardiologist, unfortunately not good news, the condition of her heart has not improved and she has to take additional medicines ( Cardalis, Furosemide )

The cardiogram shows some fluid in the chest. Thank you Marcia for assisting Grace at the cardiologist.

You can support our dogs for 1€ a month by joining our teaming group.

  • Galga Panda – 8 years living in a box

    GdS Panda 1 400 8 2023
From Tina Solera at Galgos del Sol

‘Panda basically lived 8yrs of her life in this plastic box. How can this even be legal? She’s a scared girl 9yrs old who’s just the sweetest thing. Now is the time to send cat prayers because if she’s good with cats she will be heading to the beautiful countryside of Finland. So in the comments send your ‘be good to the kitties’ prayers.’

    Panda now, what a stunner.

  • El Refugio de Leo Shelter, Axarquia – dreaming to improve our shelter

    El Refugio fundraiser 400 8 2023
El Refugio de Leo is a non-profit association registered in the Registry of Associations of the Junta de Andalucía. Most of the people who care for it are volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to help and care for abandoned and mistreated animals in the Axarquia.

The animals we have stay with us until they find a home.

Our Mission is to welcome them, give them shelter and basic care such as food and hygiene, veterinary care, affection and prepare them for a second chance.

Leo’s Refuge survives thanks to membership fees, donations, sponsors and events organized by our volunteers.

We invite you to browse our website, get to know us and our animals and help us in any way you can.

El Refugio de Leo are now running a fundraiser. Here’s what they say about it.
