Refugio Kimba is the oldest animal shelter in Spain, down in Cadiz. Here’s a lucky new galgo safe at the shelter now after weeks on the street.

    NEW RESCUE HERBIE

He was on the street for several weeks, he approached people but wouldn’t let himself be caught. Thanks to two people feeding him doing a routine and the team at SOS RESCUE, we were able to rescue him.

Hhe had some wounds on his back paws but they will heal soon.

    Welcome to the family

  • Abandoned in Toledo – need a safe place for her

For those of us who don’t live in Spain and experience the terrible problem of abandoned dogs, it’s hard to understand someone being so close to this beautiful galga and ignoring her – not taking her in to a place of safety!

    From Irina.

SOS GALGUITA ABANDONED IN A TOWN OF TOLEDO.

People are giving her food because she seems to be always in the same spot, but as usual, she needs a foster to be able to rescue her.

I will write to ERA to see if they can put a trap cage but of course without a place for her to go it is impossible to rescue her.

Please, could any association help her? With the current heat she is in great danger of suffering a heat stroke or being hit by a car or even getting pregnant.

If anyone could foster her, write me an email and we’ll organize the rescue. They think it’s a female.

    Thank you. irina.animalessinhogar@gmail.com

  • Galgos 112 – saving the abandoned and suffering Spanish hounds

    Galgos 112 Flower 400
Over the years I’ve mentioned this association when they have taken on board the rescue and rehabilitation of dogs which the sub human hunters have tried to kill, without success, or have been unbelievably seriously injured on the roads. Here’s a story of just such another poor galga who, despite all her suffering at the hands of a hunter, still has the capacity to love,

    The story of Flower

  • Fundacion Benjamin Mehnert – left for dead, saved by FBM

And another story of the amazing work done by the Spanish volunteers to rescue and rehabilitate a poor galga left for dead.

A NEW MIRACLE CALLED RENEE. She was found half buried. As a consequence, her hind legs did not respond.

X-rays and other tests showed no injury to either her spine or her legs. But Renee couldn’t walk … Still we never gave up, and we set out to rehabilitate her paws and make her walk.

A miracle, an achievement of the entire team, and her enormous spirit of self-improvement have made Renee eventually walk. We can call it a miracle, because it certainly is. But it has also been the result of intense and hard work by her veterinarian Mariana and her physiotherapist Elena, who never threw in the towel, and by all of us who have always encouraged and helped her achieve it.

  • Protectora Scooby wins the battle

    Scooby court prosecution galgo 14 6 2022
    From Protectora Scooby

‘Last year we picked up a galgo with a chip whose owner did not want him, so we brought the fact to the competent authorities. Well, a few weeks ago we got the resolution of the filed complaint and we share with you to give us if you want your opinion, because if we take into account that the poor dog could have died, been run over (among other things) 3.001,00 € fine left something short…

The good thing is that now our handsome boy will have the chance to start a new and happy life with a family that values and truly loves him.

  • A new strain of tick-borne disease – Rickettsia

A new strain of tick-borne disease

Ticks can carry quite a few pathogens that can cause disease in dogs and humans. Some of these pathogens are viruses, some are bacteria, and some are protozoa (single-celled animals). Rikettsia are very small bacteria species that grow inside the living cells of their hosts. Different strains of Rikettsia are responsible for diseases such as Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and various strains of typhus.

  • 58 hunting hounds rescue from a life of hell in Spain

Sadly not an unusual situation for the poor hunting hounds in Spain – so many hidden valleys where the dogs can be kept away from public view. Details of one recent rescue.

‘Seprona and colleagues from other associations came to the site to confiscate 58 dogs from a hunting racket. We were six associations that have helped get those animals out of there. But sadly it hasn’t been possible to get them all out. 9 have stayed there.

The asso Los Angeles de Lora have helped three, we didn’t have room for more. All the dogs are physically very bad, very very thin, they were fed water and hard bread and sometimes dead birds. A filthy place where no one should be forced to live. Here are a few general photos of everything that happened, you can see how the dogs were kept on short chains.

  • Galgos Rescue Almeria – 8 more new arrivals!

    GRA Badajoz 2 400
8 new arrivals in one week, just after the pregnant galga! 4 new ones from the Badajoz region, a hellhole for galgos.

And a couple of days later 4 more arrived. Fea, Alexa ,Drago and Rayó, they seem to be in quite good condition and not too traumatized. Drago has some wounds on his ears, Alexa has a wound on her hind leg and Rayó is limping. We will keep an eye on it for a few weeks and if no improvement is visible we will have x-rays taken.

GRA is a small shelter overflowing with hounds, desperately needing help with vet fees and food.
