July and still galgos are arriving in the dog pounds to be killed! Here’s the latest plea from Baeza,
In the Resur dog pound (Baeza) there are several galgos due to be
killed. Maria Teresa who runs the dog shelter in Baeza can not take out
more of them as her little shelter is already full and there are no
foster homes available.
She is desperately searching for foster homes or anyone who can help her.
According to the information received from Iris Gallegos (she
translates for Maria Teresa), the Resur dog pound does not allow anyone
in to take photos of the galgos. They only called Maria Teresa and told
her that there are some and they will be killed pretty soon.
Please ANYONE who can help, contact the Baeza shelter as soon as possible.
In this case the best would be to call Maria Teresa directly (she can
speak only Spanish) as it is urgent.
Maria Teresa’s cell phone number is 00 34 687 845 718
Landline of the shelter is 00 34 953 743 386Homepage link with all the contact data:

its a total nightmare where ever you look its so heartbreaking sooooooo many dogs not enough animal caring humans to help out i do hope they get a rescue the same is happening in ireland with the greys them deemd unsuitable to race have an hour to live in kennel befor they are put to sleep no one sees a greyhound as pet in ireland so thats what is happening to these poor souls and the uk rescues are over running
forgot to say and what does the governments do to controll the over breeding sod all they are all happy in their own world to be worrying about the endless situation of these poor animals i really have lost faith in a lot the human race now there is only a small percentage who care and its not enough
We lived in Ireland (in Killiney) with our galgos for 2 years. I saw there many caring pet dog owners. Most of them loved our galgos, but in fact they were somewhat surprised to see this kind of dog as a pet.
Many Irish we met knew of the abuse of greyhounds and pitied them.
The greyhounds have a small chance to get adopted even when many people know nowadays that they generally make good pets, because the Irish adopt mostly smaller dogs. This is a big problem for the greyhounds in Irland.

It would also be a help when Baeza’s galgos (the ones that are already in the shelter) would be adopted out. Then there would be space for some new ones from the pound.
Plus, one of the shelter galgos, a young male is in danger to be stolen by the local hunters. I am taking about Beethoven, the puppy:

(… of course the thiefs always approve of well cared for galgos in good working condition… as many thefts from good Spanish shelters show.)

Send me the details of the puppy and also other galgos which urgently need to get out of the refuge before they are stolen in the next month or so. Its something I can highlighyt in a post again. Bastards! Beryl

Is the shelter anywhere near Tina’s rescue, Galgos Del Sol in Murcia – if it is, I could pay for the puppy’s costs to get him to Tina and then if she didn’t think she could home him, he could come to me in England – I adopted Pedro from Tina in Feb – one of the puppies born out in Torre Pacheo. Let me know. Thanks

Hi
Have a look at the post just on, about the galgos
vulnerable to being stolen from the Baeza shelter. Jaen is in Andalucia,
east of Cordoba – but still a long way from the coast and Torre Pacheco.
Bless you for taking one of Tinas hounds, she does amazing work.

All posted on GN.
Maybe Tina could contact the Baeza shelter and ask if Maria Teresa can drive at least part of the way?
The problem is I think that Maria Teresa has nearly no helpers there at all.
But I do think the best would be to call her and ask what can be done that they can use the help you are offering for Beethoven.
Thank you for the offer it is great!

Looks like this little boy is now sorted which is good news.

Dear Fiona, it’s a very generous offer, thank you. I have just talked to María Teresa about it and she’s said that the puppy is going to France, via the association GALGOS. I need to update the list, I will do so from the 10th as till then I´m just too busy, sorry. At the moment there are three galgos in the street in Jódar, with no place to go (the Jódar shelter and the Baeza shelter are both FULL) so foster homes are needed. All the other galgos on the list are safe although Milka and another not on the list are ill with some sort of virus they got at the dog pound that kills. The dog pound has said they have dealt with the problem, we´ll see if it’s true. Best Wishes, Iris
my contact has tried to call but no one answers (any number).
they can take two galgo
give me news,
Ines
I can imagine well, how a Spanish dog pound “deals” with a virus problem.
Even here in Canada, where there are not so many dogs at humane societies, was a killing action after a ringworm outbreak in May 2010 at the Newmarket OSPCA shelter(and then a scandal, too, of course…).
I assume now that the galgos waiting for a rescue in the pound are dead and Milka can be happy that she was brought out of there in time…….

I hope Iris answers my e-mail soon. I sent her Ines’ message to her private address.
Hope that it works!
I have no clue why Maria Teresa’s cell phone is defect. But we will know it soon I suppose.
I checked the phone and the cell number is all over the internet, in old blog postings, everywhere (I was not sure if I put it right on the homepage when I uploaded the information).

Not sure about this, as there are dozens of galgo
rescue associations in France, all of whom have either Galgo or Levrier (French
for greyhound) in their title. So what is the full name of the association
and whereabouts in France are they. Id like to know, as I too live in
France. Keep everyone updated please.

Hi Ines, a couple of other people have had
the same problem. The numbers are correct, Iris lives in France, which is
the 0033 number. I have written and asked her to sort it out, also copied
to her the emails of the people who want to help, including yours. Will
try telephoning her later if I dont get replies to my emails.
Beryl
I think Iris sorted this out a little bit now, as I received e-mails from her.
But we urgently need a backup for times when Iris has no time to translate for Maria Teresa.
VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED…
Translators German-Spanish or English-Spanish actually I would be happy with each and any of them.
🙂
Anyone out there?
