Mo Swatek, President of Pro Galgo, contacted me to tell me the horrendous tale of dogs being transported from Spain in the horrendous heat of a Spanish summer. The dogs paid with their lives. As though they had not already suffered enough in Spain, they were murdered in the end by thoughtless, brainless people. This is the story from Pro Galgo.

According to our Spanish sources, they had mechanical problems in Ciudad Real on the way back to Belgium, decided to go to Madrid, and the doggies paid the price with their lives; suffocating to death was a nasty way to die for innocent animals that had already suffered terribly at the hands of dreadful people in Spain.
Several clinics from the Madrid area had to treat 15 or 16 dogs aside from the 3 that could not be saved and many people had be mobilized to take care of the animals. The driver and person responsible for the vehicle, Brigitte Becker, is said to plan to keep transporting dogs but there are at least two official complaints against her. We have written to the organization asking for comments but they have not answered.
It is not the first time that foreign organizations cause the death of the Spanish animals they claim to want to rescue, due to negligence and irresponsibility. From October Belgium is not allowing these transports in anymore and that has a lot to do with the bad behaviour of such organizations. They know how things should be done to maintain the safety and health of the animals during and after the transports but choose to ignore them.
We fail to understand how they can call themselves animal lovers and fear that more countries will follow the Belgian example and close the doors to the hapless Spanish dogs, without a future in the country where they were born.
