August has arrived, soon it will be September, and the beginning of the hunting season in Spain. Hundreds of galgos remain in refuges at the moment, rescued by brave over-worked volunteers.
But most of the refuges are unmanned at night. And the galgos are now in a vulnerable position – in danger of being stolen and finding themselves back in the hell of the last hunting season.
Passion Levriers report several galgos which have already been stolen from a refuge before they could be removed by the association.
One cannot begin to imagine the hell they will suffer yet again, after having found sanctuary.
There are many tales of galguerros and gypsies climbing into refuges at night, just to steal galgos. You can read more on the theft of galgos from Scooby Medina.
