Maria tells her story about her weekend in Belgium celebrating 20 years of Scooby Medina.
“We recently returned from a gig with a difference in Vlamertinge, Belgium. where we played an acoustic set or Scooby, a leading association dealing with the rescue of Galgos (Spanish Greyhounds) and the largest shelter in Spain for homeless animals,” Maria said.
Maria and Paul were accompanied by Mary Alice Pollard ‘Cornwall’s Voice For Animals’ who photographed the event celebrating Scooby’s 20th Anniversary. Visitors and supporting organisations attended from the UK, Germany, France, Switzerland, The Netherlands and America, raising 5000 Euros on the day, to help feed the animals in Scooby’s care.’
Maria and Paul from Cambridgeshire, said: “It was a fantastic experience. Scooby volunteers were very welcoming and playing our music to raise awareness is tremendously worthwhile. Greyhounds and Galgos make wonderful companion pets and we support the work of Scooby and greyhound rescue groups one hundred per cent.”
Maria, Paul and the band are set to play a benefit gig in Hertfordshire in October for Greek Animal Rescue and Greyhound Compassion, followed by acoustic gigs for SOS Galgos in Barcelona in November and further live dates planned in France in 2009.
Recently they wrote a song for greyhounds entitled ‘Racing to Death’ which was supported by actress Annette Crosbie OBE. The song received airplay on BBC Radio after it was released by UK campaign group
‘GreytExploitations’. The song has since been translated into Dutch and Spanish and is included in many online video presentations.
Maria and Paul’s cd ‘Music United For Animals’ has raised funds to help animal shelters world wide since it’s release in 2006. A second cd for animal welfare is due for release in the near future.
