PLEASE FORWARD WIDELY TO ALL GROUPS NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL INCLUDING ALL ANTI-GREYHOUND RACING CAMPAIGNERS WORLDWIDE
STOP greyhound racing in the Phillipines NOW!!- please take action today- the greyhounds desperately need YOUR voice!!!
Greyhound Crusaders/SWAP team UK are EXTREMELY concerned about the Phillipines introducing greyhound racing to their country. We have already done several international appeals on this and we are asking for your help once again please.
We are asking all our national and international supporters to please write to the authorities below urging them not to introduce greyhound racing. We cannot imagine the fate of these poor dogs and it is imperative we do everything within our power to stop this.
Below are contact details for the president of the Phillipines, the Tourism authority, and all of the senators some of which are opposing the idea but we need to get all of them to oppose it. Please tell them POLITELY that you will boycott their country if they introduce greyhound racing. Tourism will suffer as a result, also they must expect a backlash from animal protection groups who are already lobbying the authorities.
Please give them this website address www.greyhoundaction.org.uk so they can see the plight of the racing greyhound in the UK. Educate them on the mass suffering and slaughter of greyhounds that are used simply as disposable commodities. Please tell them that Jamaica has refused to have greyhound racing in their country and that they should follow suit as greyhound racing is frowned upon worldwide and will damage their public relations if they go ahead with it. Greyhound racing is already in decline in many parts of the world as more and more people learn through educational campaign’s that this is a cruel sport. Please tell them we are in the 21st century and using animals for human entertainment must be confined to the history books.

Our hero Muhatma Ghandi once said these quotes- “The future depends on what we do in the present” and “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated”.
Wise words from dear ‘Ghandi’ who lost his precious life trying to change the world, therefore let’s do all we can to follow his dream. Thank you for your support, each and everyone of us makes the difference. Please read the article below from the Phillipines.

LEADERS of the Mandaue City Council have expressed that they, too, are in favor of the creation of a dog-racing facility in the city’s premises, citing its potential for boosting tourism.
Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna, presiding officer of the City Council, said he has seen the development plan of the facility as shown to him by the Quisumbing family, who plan to invest in such a facility.
“Its a substantial investment that they are putting in. No doubt about it. It’s intended to bring in mainly foreign players… for sports tourism,” Fortuna said.
In earlier interviews, Mayor Jonas Cortes also expressed interest in a dog-racing facility for Mandaue. He said this was in line with his administration’s aim to promote tourism.
The Quisumbing family, according to Cortes and Fortuna, will invest in the dog-racing facility.
The family is known for owning the Mandaue-based Norkis Group of Companies, famous for the multicab line automobiles.
Fortuna said dog-racing is a better alternative to cockfighting because there is no bloodshed involved.
“These are better forms of gambling,” he said.
City Council majority leader Victor Biaño also said in a text message that he too favors a dog-racing facility.
“It will surely generate patronage by tourists and will put Mandaue in the entertainment map (of the world),” Biaño said.
Rep. Nerissa Soon-Ruiz (Cebu, 6th district) is among the authors of House Bill 5921, which grants the Fox New Millenium Amusement Club Inc., a franchise to construct, operate, and maintain a greyhound racetrack in Mandaue City. Other authors of the bill include The other authors of the HB 5921 are Cebu 4th district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon as its primary author and Iloilo 4th district Rep. Ferjenel Biron as co-author.
However the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) criticize the proliferation of dog racing, saying this would encourage the practice of breeding hundreds of greyhound race dogs.
PAWS prgoram director Anna Hashim-Cabrera said only a few breeded dogs would qualify for racing, the rest would be euthanized, as exemplified in countries where dog racing is rampant.
Fortuna said the city would find a way to avoid having to kill dogs.
He suggested training overbred dogs, such deploying them as watchdogs or police dogs.
“They can be trained because they (greyhounds breed) are runners and hunters,” Fortuna said.
