DONATIONS REQUIRED TO HELP 90 GREYHOUNDS RESCUED FROM CORDOBA (SPAIN)
The hunting season has come to an end and 90 galgos were left at the shelter by their owners. As usual if you do not accept them they kill them.
With a huge effort we try to safe as many lives as possible but the shelter is packed and we can not accept any more galgos, we need help to find forever homes urgently
This time ASSOCIATION BAASGALGO needs URGENT help.
One month ago our kennels Villa del Rio were flooded. We need donations to help us to repair the damage, to feed the 90 dogs and to attend to them.
* We are in need of EVERYTHING; food, medicines, vaccinations etc. but above all we need donations to enable us to pay for blood tests and castration and sterilisation.

Ed note. This is one of the shelters I visited in June 2009. It is a well organised shelter, the doors into the interior building were padlocked. It is situated behind something similar to what we in France call a Bricolage. Patricia, the volunteer who came with us, said to me ‘it never rains in Cordoba’. Which is why the floods which hit the area this winter have devastated the shelters so much, because normally they do not need to think about pumping water out but pumping it in for the animals.
Sadly, now there has been so much publicity about the hunters ‘hanging’ galgos, they now take them to the shelters and say ‘take them or we kill them’. What are the volunteers to do.
In France it is becoming very difficult to rehome galgos now, simply because so many have been brought out of Spain and rehomed here that the number of adoptants is few. France is saturated with adopted galgos. And it already has its own abandoned dog problem, especially every summer when the French go on holiday and dump their dogs. After summer, in September, they will buy a new puppy.
