This is another poor galgo, abandoned by a heartless galguero now hunting has finished for the summer. A volunteer tells her story.
‘Last night I was talking to a friend about what a hard time greyhounds have here in Spain. She then told me that there was a galgo living in her street and had been there approx 3 weeks now.
I drove to her street and straight away there was the galga, curled up in a ball on the road. I couldn’t catch her, she was far too scared, so I found the boy who had been throwing her food for the last 3 weeks. He was able to get close enough to put on the collar that I always keep in the car.
I put in her the car and came home with her. I have rung the police and the refuge I volunteer for. She’s still frightened but is coming round to me very quickly. She is a stunner.
I’ve just taken her to the refuge, it was terrible, 280 dogs all barking at her, she was terrified.’
Please contact parajelosinfiernos@hotmail.com (English speakers) if you can offer her a home.

That’s terrible, I hope she’ll find a home soon bless her.
Spain is the home of the Inquisition….Torquemada was in power for 10 years.
My question is: The Spaniards are suppose to be a very religious group. They are suppose to
represent the human aspect of their religion, a religion of kindness towards all including the animals they are in touch.
The Galgos (Greyhouds to English speaking countries), are not aggressive, they are just like we are, ready to relax in the couch.
If I had lots of land and money I would have a sanctuary for these great dogs.
Please World…..where is your humanistic attitude?
Save the Galgos…God will welcome you in Heaven someday when is time for you to die…build on good acts.
Anne
I pray she will be taken to a good home with love. Find the person who dumped her in first place and banish that person from own any pet. Also the law should have banish the hunting that that person may never have that dog in first place.
I agree with Anne Compagnon that if I have alot of money, I would go with her to have a sanctuary for these dogs!

Bonjour
These are beautiful words to have written, and so
many people feel the same as you, wishing they had the land to take all the
abused galgos to a place of safety.
Bless you for supporting the galgos, and for your
comment

Bonjour
Interestingly, her owner has been traced, as has
the person who abandoned her. If Spain would enforce the EU law which says
every dog, cat, horse, donkey etc is microchipped, registered on a national
database, people had to have a licence to own the animal, and heavy fines were
imposed on people abandoning their animals, then a lot of the mass abandonment
of dogs and cats , plus acts of cruelty to animals, could be wiped out.
Very quickly.
Bless you all for caring about these deserving
dogs.

The religion issue is a difficult one as I have heard of some Spaniards justifying their cruelty to animals by the fact that their religion teaches them that animals do not have souls and therefore do not feel pain.
Clearly this is a dubious and uneducated interpretation but sadly some people use it to justify their actions.
Perhaps we should also start a letter writing campaign to some of the southern Clergys asking them to “properly” educate their parishoners or whatever they are called on the matter of souls? A few biology lessons wouldn’t go amiss either but again religion and science seldom mix well.
She is with me on a months trial to see how she goes with my other greyhound! A bit nervous!!!
Oh fabulous! That’s really good of you. Will keep my fingers crossed that it works out.
Well done Tina saw you with him he’s a very nice dog hope he settles in with you can understand why you could not leave him Linda

Bonjour
Both your comments on this subject of religion
teaching people that animals do not have souls is very interesting, but I have
struggled to find information on it on the Internet. If you can give me
some pointers, I will be happy to write a separate post about it.

The only problem is she is very scared of the kids and this is causing me some concern but we will give it time its still early days. Her build is beautiful, I wonder if she is an ex-racer.
