It’s been a busy week behind the scenes at Galgo News, with two more dogs brought out of Spain for new lives.
Oco is the little podenco caught by Charl when she was hoping to catch the Estepona galga. The galga, Oco and a cat had all been surviving together on the streets; the galga was the only one not to be caught.
Gaby was an abandoned galga living on the streets further south. It took Tina two weeks to eventually catch her and take her back to the Los Infiernos refuge where she is a volunteer.
Gaby now has the offer of a forever home in the UK, but she needs to have her Pet Passport prepared, which means another 6 months on mainland Europe before she can cross the channel to the UK. I offered to foster her and prepare her for her new home environment.
Oco had the offer of a foster home in France by Frances and Ross, who adopted Estrella, the Jaen killing station podenca which I brought out of Spain at the beginning of March.
With great luck, space was found for them on an EasypetUK transport on Monday, 28th June, and yesterday, 30th June, Frances, Ross and I met up at Bordeaux with Steve and Yvonne, the two dogs, and the rest of the animals heading for life back with their owners in the UK.
Gaby soon settled in with my canine gang, heading straight for the sofa as being a comfy place to recover from the journey! She is so like my lovely Sahara that it is difficult to tell them apart.
Oco has also settled in well with the canine gang with Frances and Ross. They are now looking for a forever home for him. Considering he came from a hunter (microchipped so the owner could be tracked down!) and lived rough on the streets, Oco is a delightful cheeky smooth-haired podenco who will be a great fun dog. If you can offer him a forever home, contact Frances or Charl.

So pleased with the outcome of these stories. you are an angel beryl! x
Frances also! I am so pleased i am in touch with so many great people! x
There is more than one angel involved in this story, Tina deserves that accolade as well. I am the person lucky enough to be adopting Gaby and without the extraordinary efforts of Tina and Beryl, this would not be possible. Tina in the first place for persevering and catching Gaby and getting her to safety at Los Infiernos and Beryl for offering to foster Gaby in France for me while she does her Pet Passport statutory six months. I wanted to adopt a dog directly from Spain and give it a chance of a new life it might otherwise be denied but UK regulations on animal transportation make that a difficult, expensive and protracted process. However as soon as I approached Tina to offer Gaby a home she started fund-raising with friends to help defray the costs of moving Gaby to France and was originally intending to drive Gaby all that way herself. Then with much behind the scenes networking, and in association with Beryl and others, Tina managed to get Gaby included with Oco on a pet transport run to France, so within 10 days of me confirming I wanted to adopt her, Gaby was on the way to France, the first step of her new life. Then Beryl took over, driving to collect Gaby and take her home to live with her family of dogs while she does her 6 months Pet Passport preparation. Both these remarkable women have gone to great lengths to make it possible for me to adopt Gaby and ultimately give her a great life in the UK where she will be safe and loved and cherished for the rest of her life. Ladies, you should be proud of yourselves!! Great big galgo licks and hugs from Gaby xxx
