RIP Bracken – safe journey across the bridge to your friends

Bracken face 400
Today we had to say farewell to Bracken. X-ray and endoscopy showed problems in his oesophagus and a tumour in his lungs which was bleeding. On palliative care eventually he was unable to keep food down and we had to take the sad decision to visit the vet.

Bracken came to us 11 years ago from Tina Solera as a 2 year old, rescued with a damaged leg outside a Spanish supermarket. Originally he was just a foster en route to his forever family but, due to a serious change of circumstances he came back to us forever. He loved his walks in the meadows, joining our French lurcher Floyd, galgas Sahara and Carmela, little podenca Bebe and latterly galgo Polar. Apart from Bebe, he has said farewell to the other 4, so now he will join them and share happy memories.

I am concerned for Bebe, she is 18 years old and has never lived without the company of at least one other dog. Having now lost Polar (April) and Bracken (July), we will take a step back before inviting another needy canine into our home. So much grief in such a short space of time.
