Sad news from Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.
‘We have received the heartbreaking news that Gitano has passed away.
Gitano arrived at GRA emaciated and ill, a blood test confirmed what we feared… Leish positive. His values were very high and he needed heavy treatment, slowly but surely he got better and the vet got the Leish under control. Unfortunately, his kidneys were also affected.
Despite being very ill, Gitano kept his happiness and also the grace and pride that is so typical for Galgos.
Soon someone fell in love with him and after he had strengthened enough he was able to leave for his new home in April.
We will never forget Maria Grazie’s tears of emotion and joy when she was finally able to hold and hug her beautiful black pearl.
A few weeks ago his kidneys deteriorated sharply and despite every possible effort, kidney failure could not be avoided.
Thank you Maria Grazie for giving Gitano the best time of his life, a time far too short in a life far too short. Gitano was only 4 years old.
We are all overcome with sadness but also anger, anger at the hunters who refuse to vaccinate and protect their animals against the many possible diseases.
We say Farewell Gitano. We’ll never forget you black Prince. Another star in the sky, say goodbye to Felix and all our others.’
