Galga Denia – 5 years waiting for a forever home
Look at me. Tell me what you see…I’m just a dog half-breed who made it to the shelter after taking a lot of beating. Hence my fear, my tremors and wanting to hide in the furthest corner when an unknown human appears.
Half-breed? What a curious word. An amalgamation of a thousand races that make me a unique being and that in turn turns their looks away when a possible adopter passes before my kennel
.
Young gal? I’m not…My youth has gone like the wind locked in…They want me at the Shelter I know. But it’s really hard to spend almost 5 years of your life waking up with the first rays of sunshine living and subsisting in a cold cement kennel.
They say I’m a galga cross…hence my slender and sleek line.

hypothyroidysm in sighthounds
Hypothyroidism, an underactive thyroid condition, is a relatively common endocrine disorder in dogs. It is less common in other species. Hypothyroidism causes the bodily functions to slow down. Clinical signs of the disorder include lethargy, weight gain, and haircoat and skin changes.
Dr Jean Dodd of Hemopet says too many greyhounds are misdiagnosed with thyroid conditions because they normally run low in thyroid. Read more about it in this link.
Thyroid – From my experience, too many greyhounds are misdiagnosed with thyroid conditions. A greyhound normally runs low in thyroid, so the single thyroid test will NOT tell if a greyhound has a low thyroid. A full thyroid panel must be run – all four tests. Dr. Jean Dodd of Hemopet is an expert on thryoid blood panels, and will consult on all greyhound cases if asked. Do NOT put your hound on thyroid medications, without all four tests being performed.
More on the subject.
