  • Locked up and left to die – Protectora Scooby to the rescue again!

    From Protectora Scooby.

‘We are fed up! Tired of hearing hunters tell how much they love and care for their dogs, tired of hearing them say that cases of abuse suffered by dogs used for hunting (i.e. used as working tools) are anecdotal, which are cases isolated. We don’t like to generalize because there will always be an exception, but we’re sick of encountering ′′ isolated cases ′′ like this one from Esperanza, an abandoned galguita in Palencia. She was locked in a ship next to another dog, no water and no food and if they had taken to find them one more day, right now this little girl would be dead. Hope is just skin and bones, not able to stand or pee.

It is inconceivable that a being, called human, will do this to another living being who feels and suffers just like any of us.
Of course, the police are investigating the case and we hope they find the guilty of so much suffering and pay for all the damage it has caused to this little angel.

In order to keep saving and changing lives, like the one of Hope, we need your help.

Please donate, it will cost a lot to get this little galga back on her feet again and be checked to see if permanent damage has been done to her through severe starvation.

  • Protectora Scooby to the rescue again

    Scooby pregnant galga 1 400 1 2021
    From Scooby.

‘She was crossing the road in a very advanced state of pregnancy, looking for the food necessary to support herself and the 9 lives she carried inside.

We set in a trap cage so we could rescue her before she gave birth, but it was not possible. So after, her rescue had to be prepared very well, it was vital to catch her together her babies. So this great family is safe, thanks to all people who helped to rescue her.

And to all those brave mothers and all those babies, we want to tell you that we are not going to leave you, that we are never going to give up, that we are not going to stop fighting for you, to achieve more just laws that protect you as you deserve.

The brave mum, luckily, already has a family waiting for her when she finishes raising her puppies.

  • Galgos en Familia – working for their own shelter

Vera Thorenaar Redering has been saving galgos in the Malaga province since 2008. She’s one of the first volunteers I was in contact with when starting Galgo News. In November the Association created a fundraiser to try and raise the money to buy their own shelter. Here’s a link to see what happened in the current shelter a few years ago and the risk again with the torrential storms Spain experiences now in the winter.

  • Protectora Scooby – overflowing with galgos!

And this is how we ended the 2020 year at Scooby, rescuing 25 galgos from the municipal perrera, and of which 19 are puppies from two different litters. See them all on this link.

Two of the little ones have deformed front legs, possibly due to poor diet and another of the little ones, Cierzo, has neurological problems.

The puppies, their mums and the rest of the newcomers are adorable and need to find families as soon as possible.

If you want to adopt, send us an email to internationaladoptions@scoobymedina.org

If you can´t adopt but you want to help us to continue saving lives, you can do that in the following ways:

  • Black Galgo puppies need your help

    Black Galgo puppies 400 1 2021
These beautiful little galgo pups have had to overcome many difficulties despite their short age including the terrible parvo they managed to survive.

It’s a lot of expenses that involve getting ahead of a litter and that’s why we need URGENT HELP in the form of a Royal Canin Puppy Medium, now on offer on platforms like ANIMAL STORE as well as 50 x 60 cm drenches, or financial help if you can send us to buy all this, either by PayPal (giving gift or donation to family or friends to avoid commission) to:

    Paypal : blackgalgo.paypal@gmail.com

All the help you can offer will be well received and more than necessary, because we are on the edge of not being able to move forward with everything our little ones and our little ones require.

Let us say goodbye to 2020 and look forward to 2021 with infinite solidarity that will help our greyhounds continue to fight against the cruel fate that was designated almost at birth, and together build a future without mistreatment, neglect or barbarism.

  • Galgo Titan making good progress with Animal Rescue Spain

    Animal Rescue Espana Titan 400 1 1 2021
Do you remember this appeal. Here’s the latest good news about Titan.

‘Titan is reborn again, thanks to you who have helped us, thanks to your response. Titan was just another greyhound, abandoned, run over and pulled until some good hearted girls stopped in the middle of the gutter and contacted us. Yesterday he had surgery again and everything went well, so far he will remain in.

We’ve done for Titan what any dog deserves. Sometimes we are told that we do too much for a dog that belongs to nobody but life is above all else for us and we are unstoppable together with you. Excited we call you. THANK YOU

Titan gets released! Watch the video

Thanks to you who help us, we make this moment possible.

  • Coping with hearing loss in dogs

    Bebe grey chair 400
My little Podenca Andaluz Bebe is now 17 going on 18 and age is starting to catch up with her. She’s already very grey in her face, on her legs and behind her ears. Cataracts are developing in her eyes and her hearing – in her gorgeous pointy ears – is failing.

Here’s an interesting article on coping with hearing loss in dogs.

  • Happy New Year to all my readers

    Happy-New-Year-Dog words 400
Happy New Year to you all.

Let’s hope the nightmare of 2020 and the virus will not be repeated in 2021 and that we may soon return to ‘normality’. For our beloved hounds, nothing much has changed. Some dogs were adopted to help people through isolation, hopefully they will stay there for their natural lives, knowing comfort, a full belly and lots of love.

Thank you for reading my blog and for supporting the appeals for help which I receive from shelters and associations. It still saddens me and makes me angry over the attitude of the hunters that their dogs are simply tools to be disposed of when they are no longer of use.
