  • A time for family and reflections

    Hi Folks

Just to let you know that the pages of Galgo News will be silent for a few days. I have spent so long on completing my book and getting it to the stage for printing – the latter is being done as I write – that I have not had time to visit my lovely family in the UK. So today I fly off to England to see my daughter, my son and grandsons, and give them all the biggest Mum Hug ever!

Back in the land of computers next week.

But you can still order copies of my book by clicking on the link here on the homepage.

  • Estepona galga update – more news from Spain

You may remember the posts about the Estepona galga and Charl trying very hard to catch the poor galga. There has been an enormous amount of work going on behind the scenes of Galgo News, to try to catch the dog, sadly without success. You can read Charl’s report on her efforts here.

  • Update on Peritas, galgo puppy saved from injury on a Spanish road

Peritas now Usiles 06 2010 250 This is Peritas, now renamed Ulises. After visiting the Los Infiernos vet, he was adopted and is now living in Madrid. He has problems with his hind legs, possibly a result of having had meningitis, or alternatively being hit when running loose on the road. His new adoptants are taking veterinary advice to enable the little chap to live a full and fit life. Just look at the size of those feet!

Thank you to Tina for saving him.

  • Zig Zag Kennels, Lincolnshire – Protest, get it closed for ever, prosecute the owner

Greyhound ZigZag Kennels Grey Exploitations 229 Many British greyhound owners, breeders and trainers can be bastards, as well as the Spanish galgueros and gitanos. So here is an appeal for help from Greyt Exploitations to rescue British greyhounds from a hellish situation, and to support their campaign for closure of a stud and puppy farm.

    ZigZag Kennels ~ Please Help!

    Dear Supporter

We urgently need your help to ensure the welfare of a large number of greyhounds kept in appalling conditions at ZigZag stud and puppy farm on the outskirts of Lincoln. Please click here to view the extensive and very disturbing evidence.

The farm is owned by Charles Pickering who was first exposed in 2008 by the Sunday Times for selling puppies to Liverpool University for research and dissection.

  • Galgos in the Czech Republic – support them if they are local to you

Here’s a link to a website in the Czech Republic, devoted to greyhounds, lurchers and podencos.

  • WSPA – abandoned the galgos – write and protest

One of the chapters in my book ‘From Heaven to Hell – The Story of the Galgo Espanol’ looks at Spanish and International animal welfare associations. One of these is the WSPA – World Society for Protection of Animals. Many of the galgo rescue associations proudly display the WSPA logo on their websites.

My research showed that in 2002 WSPA carried out a ‘long term investigation’ with Scooby Medina into exposing the inhu8mand disposal of Spanish hunting dogs. The WSPA finished working on the issue on 2004.

I asked the WSPA why they had abandoned the galgos and the terrible annual holocaust. Their spokesperson replied.

  • Podenco Oco desperately needs a forever home – please adopt him

Oco[2] with Charl 250 Charl is appealing for someone to offer this sweet podenco a forever home.

‘This is Oco. He was rescued must be 3 months ago, when we first went to Estepona to see about the galga, with Encarnis trap from DDEVIDa we caught him, .. he is 4. He was owned by a hunter so who knows where he was kept, and then “given” so say, to someone a friend! To me that says he was on the street all that time, .. he is so cute, loving cheeky, he still has some fear and can yelp when you shout or move fast. He is castrated, vaccinated and negative in leishmaniosis, good with children, cats fine, he lived on the street with one, bless it.

He really needs a good knowledgeable home. When you stroke him he closes his eyes. he is caring and wants to be with you, he won’t sleep on a bed yet. He is in a foster home but the husband is allergic to the dog hair. He so deserves a good loving home.’

  • Help costs of medication for two old boys – saved by Amigos de los Galgos, fostered in France

A while ago I appealed for help to pay the ongoing medical costs which Joanna Simm is bearing for two galgos she has been fostering for a couple of years, and which no one wanted to adopt.

Here is a message from Joanna. ‘Please can you add a big thank on Galgo News to a lovely lady from Tailends, who kindly sent me loads of the heart meds for Quijote (aka Luiz). I think it is amazing that the help came from a charity who do such demanding and incredible work themselves. Bless them! love joanna x’

Thank you to Suzie Scott and Tailends, for helping Joanna. And the poor old boys will continued to need medication for the rest of their lives. If you can help, please help Joanna.

  • Galga Sofie, eating on her own – GRIN appeal for donations to pay for veterinary care

Latest update on Sofie, the galga which some Spanish bastard smashed her jaw and seriously broke it! And here you will see her eating on her own – albeit with her jaw clamped by metal rods – with her friend podenca Rosie trying to taste some too.

Silvia says ‘A short video of Sofie and Rosi :-)) Sofie has better character now, she is nice when crazy Rosi is jumping around or trying to take her food, she doesn`t try to bite anymore :-)). Sofie is thin but gaining a little weight, she starts to eat dry food alone. She needs to be in the clinic till they can take the “metal” out.’

GRIN still desperately need donations to pay for all the veterinary care for Sofie, as she is still, many weeks after being rescued, residing in the vet’s clinic. Donate viat the GRIN website, Paypal.
