  • Estrella, saved from the Jaen perrera, happy in a French home

Jaen perrera Estrella and 3 galgos 12 2009 250 Readers may remember Estrella, the podenca who shared a death cell at the Jaen perrera with 3 galgos. At 8 years old, she had been taken there by her owner, as he no longer had a use for her. The three galgos were rescued, but the podenca was left behind. She was obviously intended to leave as well, as she had a blood test showing she had ehrlichia, but somehow she got overlooked.

Two weeks later she was still there, discovered, and rescued. L’Europe des Levriers arranged for her to travel in the rescue at the beginning of February. Estrella came out in the van with me, and became my foster dog. She was skinny, not surprising as this is one of the symptoms of ehrlichia, and unfortunately she had not been put on medication for it.

  • Cuenca, Castilla La Mancha – the truth behind the glitter and gloss

Podenca 2 02 2010 300 Castilla La Mancha in central Spain is one of the 5 main hell holes in which to be born a galgo or podenco. Cuenca is its capital city and has presented its candidacy to be European Cultural Capital 2016.

There is a dark side to the city which has not been presented to the EC. This has come from a supporter of CuencaAnimal association.

‘Since I have been in the world of the broadcasts I’ve seen many horrible images: dogs maimed, abused, abandoned in an extreme state of malnutrition, and of course, the indiscriminate killing in the kennels, the shame of Europe on the subject of animals.

Sandy from Tina Solera 02 2010 300 Introducing Sandy, searching for a forever home. She arrived at the Los Infiernos refuge, Murcia, about 7 months ago, pregnant, rescued from gypsies, which is possibly why her body is covered in scars. 5 of the 7 puppies died, all galgos.

She had a home waiting for her in Germany, until it was discovered she was pregnant. At the moment she is quite a confident galga, approx 7 years old, vaccinations and passport up to date, blood tests clear. So she is ready to go.

Contact Tina if you can offer her a forever home.

Kafir EDL Cristina 0110 300 And Kafir is still waiting for that special person to continue his journey back to the heaven of being a much loved pet, instead of the life of hell before he was caught. Contact L’Europe des Levriers about him.

  • Colate – Galgo happy in his French home – unlike his previous Spanish home

Colate and friend 2010 350 One of the first galgos we fostered was called Colate – we called him Chocolate Chip Dog – he was the most beautiful chocolate colour. Like my Sahara (only 18 months old when I got her) he had a grey face, and he was only 4 years old. This is a photo of him with his mate – he’s the one on the right. Great to see him looking so well.

  • Abandoned dogs in Spain, France, Italy, Croatia, Romania, the Balkans, Greece…..

Sheriff Jo of Arizona 2010 300 This has been sent to me by one of my American readers. She suggested it might be an idea for the Spanish government, and regional councils, to take on board – so that the volunteers who work so hard in the refuges and shelters full of abandoned dogs – galgos especially – could get a load of free help.

It is an amusing read, after the appeals and horror reports posted recently, but I think we should import the ideas to pretty well every European country!

Subject: SHERIFF JOE IS AT IT AGAIN!

You all remember Sheriff Joe Arpaio ofArizona , who painted
the jail cells pink and made the inmates wear pink prison garb.
