  • Grieving our losses – losing a canine companion

    RIP candle 350
We’re all been there, had to say farewell to a canine companion, whether through age or illness. They always take a piece of your heart with them, but leave you with lots of wonderful memories. And during the grieving process, a house without a dog isvery empty. And so we adopt again. The new dog isn’t a replacement for the departed one, as it will have a completely different character and different needs. And we know that at the end of its life, we will again put ourselves through the pain of losing it.

    Grieving our Losses article.

Candy’s Hound Rescue International is a rescue that was set up 6 years ago to help Greyhounds from the dog meat trade in China.

Our founder Kerry, who runs a UK based Greyhound rescue, (Greyhound Protection UK) was made aware of ex Racing greyhounds being exported to mainland China 🇨🇳 for breeding. A whole can of worms was then opened.

After being laughed at and dismissed about the fact Greyhounds were in the dog meat trade, Kerry did in fact find many many Greyhounds and sighthounds in the dog meat trade. Many were from Ireland and England.

After then reaching out to Doe Doe, a Chinese lady working to help the dogs, a friendship was built.
First, Kerry started taking hounds under the UK rescue, but when a whippet cross named Candy was due to travel to the UK was killed in kennels the night before her flight, Kerry decided she wanted to do more.

  • Why your dog should be sterilized – prevent Pyometra

Good afternoon from the Scooby family.

We want to present you a serious illness that requires urgent surgery and can be avoided by sterilization.

Pyometra or uterus infection whose symptoms are fever, loss of appetite and in many cases increase in water consumption and if not treated urgently can cause death in a very short time.

There are two types, open and close. The open is easier to observe as the female begins to stain down the vulva. While closed is more dangerous because often when the family realizes the animal is sick it may be too late.

That’s why and many other reasons we always advise you to sterilize your best friend!’

  • Sad story of Galgo Simon with Galgos 112

Life is hard for galgos and podencos in Spain and the Spanish Islands. The hunters just don’t care. Thank goodness for the volunteers and rescue associations who do. Sadly no matter how hard Galgos 112 tried to help this poor injured galgo, he didn’t make it.

‘We called you Simon and we believed you would be part of our family, but it couldn’t be, leaving us shattered. Recently we received the notice of a greyhound bleeding in Linares, our partner Maria quickly went to get him, got him in the car and urgently moved to the Aimar Clinic. The vet managed to stop the bleeding and when he was already cauterizing the serious wound that cut his artery, the poor galgo had a cardiac arrest that was impossible to go back.
