  • Galgos 112 rescue 2 galgos from a reservoir

    Galgos 112 Leo110 2023 400
2 starving galgos luckily rescued by volunteers with Galgos 112. Here’s the story.

‘Look at the state in which these two puppies were rescued in a watering raft, damn rafts with no exit ramps where hundreds of animals die.

To our little ones we do not know if they were thrown in or fell looking for water. What we do know is that if they had not been rescued, today they would be dead.

And abdolutely nothing would happen either to change things in Spain, two deaths more to add to the thousands of deaths that matter very little or nothing to the government and certain sectors of this society.

  • Greyhounds In Need – helping galgos in Spain

Grab yourself a cuppa, a comfy chair and sit down to read The Autumn/Winter newsletter from Greyhounds In Need on this weblink. Interested to see they are now helping an association in Caceres, I’ve publicised their work before now. 112carlotagalgos was one of the first shelters in Spain which Carolyn – who has now stood down as General Manager – visited. On the same visit she also went on to Tina Solera and Galgos del Sol.

A couple of other very interesting articles are on the efforts by Spanish volunteers to educate the young generations about caring for their dogs and the new education centre at Galgos del Sol. Great work by everyone.

  • The Galgo/Spanish Greyhound

    Galgo shadow 400
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria.

Few people know what a Galgo is, the Spanish greyhound, which is used indiscriminately by hunters for hare hunting or on the Spanish version of the racecourse.

At the end of the season, the “lucky ones” are dumped and abandoned en masse, others are hanged, beheaded, burned, impaled or thrown into wells while still alive, again and again year after year throughout Spain.

We are talking about thousands of dogs, not isolated cases.

Known as “the children of the wind” for their ability to run at lightning speed (a spectacle of nature), as well as “the dogs of nothing and nowhere”.

  • Sir Roger Moore on hunters and hunting

Totally agree with this quote from Sir Roger Moore – 7 times playing 007 James Bond.

‘Sir Roger Moore, seventime James Bond: “Hunting is a sickness, a perversion and a danger and should be recognised as such. People who get their amusement from hunting and killing defenceless animals can only be suffering from a mental disorder. It´s detestable that anyone would choose to get thrills from killing others who ask for nothing from life but the chance to remain alive”.
