News from Protectora Scooby Medina del Campo
Last year, Scooby rescued 579 dogs and homed 158 here in Spain and 296 overseas: Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Hungary, Holland, Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA. Scooby saved 77 cats and homed 65. So far this year we have saved 204 dogs and cats and we’ve homed 199 of them. These are high numbers for our small team of about 10 staff. We are blessed with some dedicated volunteers, for which we are very grateful. All of our work carries a lot of administration, not only Scooby’s own activities but also the liaison with our partners and the vast array of government paperwork we need to complete to make our international adoptions happen. In the last newsletter
we told you about our computers cracking under the strain and our administrator burning the midnight oil as a result. Thanks to your generosity, our supporters rose to the occasion and we were able to buy new Samsung Galaxy computers for the Scooby office and they have made such a difference to our efficiency. Thank you all very much. -
I-CAD, Europenet.com, Check a chip.com – microchipping is compulsory for dogs, cats, horses and ferrets
A new programme on UK TV is called ‘Lost Dogs Live’ which is about getting the watching public involved in tracing lost dogs. One of the startling pieces of information to come out of the programme was that in the UK there are 15 registered microchip companies. Besides the importance of microchipping your dog, it is also vitally important that up-to-date information is registered with the microchip company about the address at which your dog/cat lives. It is commonplace to assume that once you register with a veterinary clinic and they record your pet’s microchip, if the animal goes missing they will be able to trace if it turns up elsewhere, especially if it is suspected stolen.
Not the case!

RSPCA Video of the UK greyhound kennels where ‘trainer’ Rebecca Perkins kept her dogs
I hope you can see this, which is a video of the kennels where greyhound trainer Rebecca Perkins kept nearly 40 greyhounds in various stages of sickness, malnutrition, injury and death. It’s a facebook video, I can’t find that the RSPCA have put it on Youtube.
And all she got was 36 days in jail!! No justice for dogs.

Adopt an older dog – Greyhound ErGe hoping for love and comfort
A greyhound rescued in China! We know many Irish and English greyhounds are exported to China…‘Candys Hound Rescue International says
“Beautiful old boy ErGe from China is still looking for his forever home.He has never had a family or belonged in this world and he now deserves that chance.
Old boy ErGe is looking for his forever home. He was was rescued in main land China 3 years ago. It’s believed he was used as a police dog in his younger life according to the person who saved him in China. Once he was no longer needed by the Police he was being sold to the meat markets.
Unfortunately many police in China use Greyhounds to catch stray dogs from the streets.
ErGe is in foster with 8 other hounds and he isn’t aggressive but he doesn’t have any manners around dogs and has no boundaries.
He needs someone that will understand this and don’t expect too much from him. He needs time and patience to grow and learn how to become a pet. -
Galgo Phoenix with Galgos Rescue Almeria – hoping for a forever home
From Sandy at Galgos Rescue Almeria‘At the beginning of July, these 2 hounds Tracy & Phoenix had an appointment at the vet for a general checkup and vaccinations.
When these sweethearts arrived at Galgo’s Rescue Almeria they urgently needed immediate surgery. The traumatologist performed emergency surgery on Tracy’s upper leg on her right hind leg.
With Phoenix it was the elbow on the left front leg. For him it was waiting patiently that he recovered completely and that his leg could be saved as he had been wandering around with his fracture for weeks.
But today we look back with satisfaction on the work our vets at La Seda have done.
Both sweethearts are now ready for the next step in their lives going to a forever home.
