  • Galgo Gazpacho defying the odds – a strong will to live

Remember Gazpacho, the galgo at death’s door rescued by Galgos del Sol. Here’s an update.

Watch Gazpacho defy all the odds! Gazpacho was rescued in appalling conditions and his kidneys were unrecogniseable. It was heavily suspected he might not survive long. However Gazpecho says he’s not going anywhere… he’s living the life in foster with Carine & Patrick and having way too much fun!

Human cruelty will never cease to amaze us.

We have just received this beauty in the state you see. We don’t know how she is able to stand, she is just bones. We will call her MALALA because she is a great fighter and we will get her to pull through.

MALALA will of course not be in adoption until she is recovered, we will keep you updated on her progress.

These are the dogs that the new animal welfare law leaves desolate.

  • A dog is adopted for its whole life – not abandoned!

Moving need to rehome my dog 400
Too many people use the excuse of not being able to take their dog when they move. It’s an excuse especially used a lot in Portugal. It should be a last resort that the dog is taken to a shelter.

  • Abandoned Galgos – Galgos del Sol on their tracks

    Abandoned galgos GdS 400 2 2023
From Tina Galgos del Sol – what the tourists don’t see.

Imagine just driving down the road & seeing dogs everywhere. That’s what we face in Spain. Next rescue… these two. The rescue waiting list is long

And another, lucky not to be injured.

This what the amazing volunteers in Spain live with every day. And the Spanish government doesn’t do a bloody thing to stop it, to protect these dogs, stop the bloody hunters over-breeding and abandoning every year. Tens of thousands of hunting dogs at risk!

  • Poor Galgo – strangled by a shoe lace! Now safe with Galgos del Sol

‘Only days after hunting dogs are excluded from the new Wwelfare Protection Laws in Spain, this galgo was found nearly dead’ strangled by a shoe lace. Luckily found by people who are disgusted by these new laws. Deliberately tortured to die in agony. He’s not well & in vet care.

In relation to the case of the strangled Galgo, we have presented a formal legal statement. It can be seen in full on our FB page

    Petition 400 2 2023
This petition is launched by associations of lawyers specializing in animal rights, to request a veto in the Senate to withdraw the reform of the Spanish Penal Code.

According to the decision of February 9th, 2023, galgos, podencos and all Spanish hunting, guard, companion and herding dogs are excluded from the new animal protection law and the abuse of the dogs is largely unpunished.

Please help, sign the petition and share it!

  • New Animal Welfare Law in Valencia Region

This is a precis of an article which appeared in my online copy of The Olive Press.

The Valencian parliament has approved a new regional animal welfare law which is tougher than recently-passed national legislation.

Penalties of up to 45,000 euros for very serious cases of animal cruelty

Breeding and sale of pets restricted to authorised professionals.

Also includes hunting dogs who inthis instance are classified as pets.

Valencian agriculture minister Isaura Navarro – guarantees the rights of animals.

Classifies animals as ‘sentient beings’ and not just pets.

Adoption prioritise. Registration and identifiation of animals required – owners have 6 months to register them.
